Default Got My Goalie Mask Repainted....

hey CP

i thought i'd show you the latest incarnation of one of my goalie masks.

this thread was when i first got the mask painted back in 2010.... http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=92185

after wearing that mask for a few years it really started to show it's age, so i decided to pick up a new lid in 2013 and get it done up.... http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=132475

you can definitely see the flames influences in my masks! ha! ha!

well, i decided to repaint the first mask i got back in 2010 becuz i never wore it and this past fall i started a second mens team in our local league here in kelowna in the 'over 35' division (you must be at least 35 years old to play). this second colts team - the colt 35s - had a different colour scheme from my div 3 team. we went with the grey/white/black la kings outdoor game jersey. my other mask is mostly red with pretty much no grey so this was a perfect excuse to redo my old mask.

i decided to go in a slightly different direction from my other paint jobs - they were always heavy with fire/flames and lots of skulls (again - huge influence from previous flames goalies). this one would have sort of a military/camo/industrial feel to it and be mostly white/greys/black. there are still lots of influences from previous flames keepers, but tweaked to work with this style

so onto the pics....

what it started as:

and now.....

a couple notes on the skull plate - the nick name of 'show stop' came from Regehr when he played for the flames, so it stuck! ha! ha!

also - we have to have 'pphl' numbered stickers in our league (new this season), so i got mine painted right into the skull plate. it's just amazing that i got #34... same number that's on my jersey! ha! ha! thanks bc-larry!!!

and talking with my painter - he said he just lost himself the one day while working on it and the next thing he knew there was a skull on my mask and didn't think that i'd mind- ha! ha!

and with our jersey....

and if i feel like wearing it with my div 3 team it will still work just fine....

for those wondering, it was $450 for the paint job and was done by rick evans here in kelowna www.rickevansartistry.com
he does AWESOME work and is a great guy to deal with - i highly recommend him

thanks for checking out my lid!

That looks awesome!

How long did that take him?

We come out to that area every summer, and want to get my son's mask painted, but don't know if there'd be the time needed.

$450 seems incredibly cheap for work of that quality.

I wonder if he paints bikes...

i dropped the mask off in mid-november... so a little over 2 months - however (and this is huge) i told him quite clearly that i was not in any sort of rush to get it back since i had my other mask to use. i know it took quite i while just to prep the mask becuz of the previous paint job and the condition of the mask - lots of 'chips' to fix. i can't remember how long it took for the other paint jobs, but it was a lot quicker becuz the masks were brand new... but in those cases too, i had a second mask to wear, so i wasn't overly concerned with the turn around time.

the best thing to do would be to contact him (thru his webpage) and ask.

ha! ha!

most times it's my customers customer that makes me feel like that. i think i would go absolutely nuts if i had to deal with the end user on a regular basis. i guess that's why i do what i do, so i don't have to

alright I can't take it anymore. I'll state what I am certain several other people are thinking. I think you lost me when you chirped Heatley even though he was nice enough to come out and play shinny with your group.

As cool as the mask is, and it is cool I definitely don't deny that, this thread is a lot like 'hey, check out how huge my **** is'. It is great you're excited, don't get me wrong, but you have to be one of the hugest subtle braggers on this site and in this case, not even subtle.

edit: also, I just had to type this out. I don't know why. I am not even searching for thanks. Maybe some humility I dunno. Please keep posting pics of your masks, they are honestly pretty sweet (even though personally I'd go less skulls but that's just me).
