Default Mid season gander at prospect rank

Here's the prospect update from the poll, my thoughts anyway.

1. Gaudreau - 61.41% graduated
2. Bennett - - 87.44% new top prospect
3. Baertschi - 58.47% on the mend?
4. Poirier - 61.61% Huge rookie pro season
5. Granlund - 56.39% big steps

Top 5 all in good shape, and Baertschi starting to earn his top 5 ranking

6. Klimchuk - 43.53% solid season
7. Wotherspoon - 49.15% solid season
8. Reinhart - 28.86% Stock falling
9. Ortio - Runoff over Gillies solid season
10. Gillies - Loser of Runoff solid season

Rest of top 10 having solid seasons with exception of Reinhart?

11. Jankowski - 51.49%
12. Sieloff - 38.55% Stock falling
13. Arnold - 46.44% Stock rising?
14. Knight (tie) Would have said falling until last two weeks
15. Ferland (tie) Stock rising?
16. Kulak - 47.67% Stock falling?
17. Agostino - 43.13% Stock falling?
18. Smith - Run off Over McDonald
19. McDonald - 50.77%
20. Kanzig - 34.05% Stock falling?

21. Culkin - 37.57% Stock rising
22. Wolf - 33.66%
23. Hickey - 42.86% Stock rising
24. Ollas Mattson - 35.27%
25. Ben Hanowski - 33.55% Stock rising
26. Rushan Rafikov - 53.57% Stock rising
27. Bryce Van Brabant - 23.93% Stock rising?
28. Eric Roy - 28.05%
29. Mark Cundari - 29.94%
30. John Gilmour - 41.82%

31. John Ramage - 45.83% Stock falling?
32. Tim Harrison - 41.03%
33. Austin Carroll - 32.43% Stock rising
34. Chad Billins - 41.84%
35. Josh Jooris - 43.24% Huge move up!

Haha, the one that has to stand out is that lad at the bottom of the list. Josh Jooris, what a story he has become.

Hanowski continues to be underrated. Should've been in the top 20 imo.

I would say Jooris has moved all the way into the top 10...with Reinhart falling into the 11-20 range.
I would move Culkin, Carroll, Rafikov into 11-20, bumping Kulak, Agostino, and Kanzig into 21-30
Roy and Cundari have dropped to 31-35 range

I'd say that collectively we did a pretty good job, except for drastically underestimating Jooris ... but even Hartley expected Jooris to play one preseason game and be an early cut. Even with low expectations, Jooris should have been higher than 35.

I thought Culkin should have been higher back then, and his play is showing that he should have been.

Hanowski is low, but I'm not really sure how much higher he should be.

Sure you could bump a few out of the top 20 to make room, but there would be a bunch more that rise above him to prevent it. I'm not sure he's anywhere near the top 20

I took Jooris & Gaudreau out, they have both been told they made the NHL.

IMO if we did it now it would look something like this.

2. Bennett
4. Poirier
5. Granlund

3. Baertschi
6. Klimchuk
10. Gillies
9. Ortio
15. Ferland

7. Wotherspoon
13. Arnold
11. Jankowski
14. Knight
21. Culkin
25. Ben Hanowski
26. Rushan Rafikov
12. Sieloff
23. Hickey
8. Reinhart
27. Bryce Van Brabant
17. Agostino
16. Kulak
18. Smith
20. Kanzig
19. McDonald
24. Ollas Mattson
22. Wolf
28. Eric Roy
29. Mark Cundari
30. John Gilmour
32. Tim Harrison
33. Austin Carroll
31. John Ramage
34. Chad Billins

of course some of the guys would be +/- a few spots, nobody can 100% predict what the group will say, but it certainly has been a good year or the organizational development. Its not the same group so just because Bennett went from #2 to #1 does not imply improvement. But about 11 guys really rising. 12 if you count jooris and only 5 really falling.

Obviously Green improved their standing in our minds,
Black done little to impact their standing,
red lowered their standing.

I think Agostino was pretty borderline on dropping down the list, but I think as a broad fan base we will probably give him at least the next half season before we start lynching him.

Poirier: Awesome start to his pro career. I expect him to contend for a full-time NHL spot next season, and if not, get a bunch of games as a callup. I'm especially pulling for him after the ridicule the Flames took for taking him over Shinkaruk, which is looking good so far!

Klimchuk: Been a bit disappointed to be honest. He isn't having a poor season by any means but has he shown improvement? Still, lots of potential obviously.

Reinhart: What happened? Massive drop off from last season where he looked bright.

Gillies: Huge rise! After the first 8 games of the season his save % was 91.7 (0 SO). Last 10 games its been 95.5% (4 SO) which is insane. He could contend for top five, IMO, but is probably sixth. Goalies are voodoo, but man are his numbers looking good. Hard not to be really optimistic.

Jankowski: See Olli Maatata. Regardless, he's shown an improvement this season but still not where you would expect him to be at this point. Clock is ticking, even though we know he's a long-term project.

Sieloff: Unfair to judge after his horrific injury troubles, but he shouldn't have been top 20 in the first place.

Kulak: Big drop now he's in the East Coast, but him and Culkin should have had swapped ranks at the time anyway, IMO. It's a long way back now. (Shades of John Negrin?)

Agostino: Ranked too highly so start, perhaps a combination of the fact his NHLE kept getting reported at double what it should have been and us being hopeful for anything in return for Jarome.

Rafikov: Big rise, especially now he's recognizable name amongst all hockey fans after his World Juniors performance. Obviously a long way to go, but he's looking like an absolute steal for a 7th! round pick.

Jooris: What can you say? Nobody saw this coming. Even as a biased Flames fan, he has to be one of the top feel good stories in the entire NHL this season. Simply awesome.

What do you mean by See Olli Maatta? The kid was one of the pens best defenders before having to go for surgery. Not picking him when we had the chance is going to haunt the Flames.

No one probably saw him in the top 20 of our prospects (a quick review of the polls show that round 21 was when he started to get votes - IgiTang being the first one), but he had a great camp in 2013 so I am not sure why he was so far down the list for most people. I am guessing it was age and the fact he was not drafted, but a bit of short-sightedness by most of the fans too (myself included).

jooris was a complete shocker. The question mark for me is Sieloff, i was hoping he'd be showing his 2nd rounder potential in the AHL at some point this season after finding his legs after being away for the year.

he also had pretty lackluster AHL numbers - he is one of those rare guys who performs better at NHL level than AHL/lower league level

I think Wolf's stock should actually be up, not down.

Klimchuk is buttery soft, I see his stock slowly falling the next couple seasons.

I am not exactly sure where you are getting that from, but I would wholeheartedly disagree with everything you said.

I think that's exactly what the post is suggesting.
