Default Hockey ruptures ganglion cyst

I have a nice (and a bit of disguisting) little story that I wanted to share somewhere, so I figured why not on a hockey board.

For a while now I've had a ganglion cyst (aka bible bump, a bump filled with fluid under the skin close to a joint) on the outside of my left foot close to the outer ankle knuckle. It's just been sitting there minding it's own business, but it has been pretty decent in size and noticable.

Yesterday I was playing pick-up hockey with some friends, and there were a few kids, about 12 years old, playing along with us. Well, as kids are, they were short and quick, and also pretty funny to play hockey with. However, at one point I got the puck in my own zone and starting skating hard up the ice when one of said kids suddenly appeared out of thin air right in the midst of my lane. Since I'm not into running kids over and potentially hurting them I took a flying leap around and over him, losing my footing and smacking the outside of my left skate hard into the ice as I came back down.

When I got up it felt a bit bruised and I noticed my skate was a bit looser. After taking the skate off, I realized that the impact had ruptured the cyst. It sure felt like a better way to rupture a ganglion cyst than smacking it with a book, at least for a hockey enthusiast.

Hey, nice! I have one on my wrist that seemingly comes and goes.

Did it hurt at all? I don't think mine is big enough to worry about getting bible thumped.

I had one on my wrist when I was a kid. My doctor told me they usually go away on their own, but I could hit it with a hammer to speed up the process. She might have been joking about that, but I tried it and it didn't work. About a year later I was playing jackpot and a football hit it perfectly square and it went away.

I don't think the whole rupture thing hurt at all. What hurt was the impact, so I'll try avoiding slamming my feet to the ice from now on.

I had one in my wrist that made it super painful to play guitar. It ruptured while playing guitar, which isn't as cool of a story, but definitely a weird feeling.

Honestly, thanks to my OCD about popping things on the skin's surface, this is the most satisfying story I have heard all year. I have no problems admitting that. I think I need a cigarette.

The term Bible bump comes from the tradition of smacking them with the family Bible. Had one on my wrist for a couple of years, finally disappeared.

Fortunately there was no breakage of the skin, so the goo was contained inside and will just go away over time. The alternative scenario is horrible and I am forever grateful that it didn't happen.
