QOTD: Where does Backlund line up in the Flames roster?
I know this has been discussed but a poll is always interesting to add up results.
Does he take Monahan's top line spot?
Does he bump down Jooris?
Does he take Granlund's spot on the third line?
Or do they bump someone off the fourth line and work him in slowly?

I voted third line spot. Wouldn't be surprised to see him move up to second line after a few games. If he could build some chemistry with Gaudreau... Excuse me... I need a cold shower.

Monahan's spot.
Monahan has done a solid job, but he is only 20 and I think he can benefit by getting better matchups as the 2nd line center.
Send Granlund down, he will be a full time NHLer next year, imo.
Backlund
Monahan
Jooris
Stajan

To start probably 3rd line. He should be able to play with Hudler and Johnny once he gets his legs up to speed.
Also he needs to stay healthy and get some chemistry going with 2nd line. With granlund showing he is ready, Backlund could become trade chip in summer if he doesn't show more than what granlund brings.

His faceoff ability alone earns him top 6 ice time. In terms of the top 2 lines, I'm going to reverse my earlier position. . . . I think Backlund is a good puck distributer and has less finishing skills, which makes putting him with a trigger man like Glencross a seemingly natural fit. Monahan, on the other hand, is a great shooter, which makes putting him with two great distributors like Gaudreau and Hudler a seemingly natural fit.

Why not just shift one of Granlund or Jorris to the wing, Baclkund slots in as center...adjust all centers as needed.

Not sure if they've been a line already in Addy but, Grandlund centering Baertschi and Poirier? Sweet Jesus.

Second line for me. Granlund likely down, but I do think he has shown that he will be a player and that the Flames should be looking to find him a spot in the lineup.

2nd line seems like the safest bet to start. Quality of competition isn't as sky high as he's normally used to. Really good linemates. Easier minutes and zone deployment.
Johnny/Hudler's offensive zone deployment this season: 56.4%
Johnny/Hudler's offensive zone finish this season: 53.4%
Monahan's o-zone deployment: ~44%
Monahan's o-zone finish: ~49%
The 2nd line's quality of competition is significantly lower as well (~0.03 vs ~0.07) although that's kind of intuitive anyway.
Because Sean has the edge in faceoff ability, I'd expect him to see icetime with Johnny and Hudler again before too long. They really need a proper triggerman on that line, and if they're deployed often in the o-zone they can likely hem the opposition in. Then again, you could also make the argument that he stays on the 1st line as well.

Second line, Jooris down to bottom six, Granlund stays, McGrattan waived.
People move in and out of the lineup as they run hot and cold (Bollig, Stajan, Raymond, Byron, Granlund, etc.)

I think he starts on the 3rd line. After a game or 2, he's back in the top 6.

Third line to start, Granlund out.
Eventually 2nd line, or even a 1A/1B situation with Monahan.

If we're talking when he first comes back, 3rd line. But where he fits long term (this year), 1st line.

When Granlund is in Adirondack/Abbotsford he was with Reinhart as those two have incredible chemistry.
Baertschi has done better with Arnold as his centre and does very well with Knight. Baertschi and Granlund didn't work very well.

I'd like to see more goals from Monahan so I'd look at moving Backs into the shutdown role but not until he is up to speed.

2nd line. Granlund down until the Flames can trade Backlund. Granlund is a better version of Backlund offensively.

Monahan is on pace for 50 pts and flirting with 50% on the dot while playing the #1 C position. I don't think Backlund would improve on those numbers very much.
Inserting a possession C with some offensive output between Gaudreau and Hudler could be an interesting mix.
Monahan
Backlund
Jooris
Stajan
Granlund gets sent down with a pre-paid ticket back to Calgary.
Fun time to be a Flames fan.
