Sadly, I don't know much about players from Alberta. Like most of Western Canada it tends to be poorly represented as far as national teams and tournaments go.

Trying to scope out some GHL/Superleagues competition?
I don't think you can really put a list out of the best ball hockey players in Calgary. Most last only 2-3 seasons before they get fustrated with the leauge and play summer ice instead.

hey Jim T is that you asking because you are trying to find a new pipeline for players - sort of like that million dollar arm movie? Just find the el;eite ball hockey players and then teach them to skate......

Cody is best. Jason is pretty good when his mom allows him to play.

Its mostly the refs in the leauges, The most notable one for me atleast is Comic Book Guy. He would blow minor infractions into huge arguments.
I know they are mostly volunteers / paid minimal to ensure no brawls will break out but good lord some of them are infurating.
Also another factor is the d-bags that think its game 7 of the cup finals with scouts in the stands, acting like tough guys and playing like Burrows.

Ah yes. Ball hockey refs tend to take a lot of abuse, but some of them are brutal. Oddly it always seems to be the big fat ones who are the biggest problems in leagues. Just happy to have power for once. That said, the refs in around the lower mainland are decent. There are a couple smaller gym leagues that are absolutely bush, but the full rink ones and ones based near Surrey tend to have solid refs.
I find the tough guy antics are usually in ice as well. Infact my experience here is that ice guys are usually the problem causers as they bring an attitude of "I play on ice most of the time so I'm awesome." Problem for them is, in Vancouver atleast, that ice here is essentially "Can you skate well? You're the new best player." So they have no shot, no ball handling skills and no real pace cause they are used to gliding. They get frustrated and get dirty get ejected and blame the referees.

It must be opposite down here then, because it seems like the guys who play ice generally respect the game and players moreso then the ones who sign up to be s*** starters.
When we did co-ed ball hockey, we had a guy lay one of our girls out over the boards.
Chalms got kicked out for laughing once too.

I suspect there is just more ice hockey players as well. In vancouver, it's only in the past ten years that rec leagues have really taken off with all the new ice surfaces available. Still expensive as ####, which is why I switched to ball. I am playing three or four different ball leagues plus drop ins for still less money than my one ice.

I got two and ten for the same thing. Unsportsmanlike like and verbally abusing an official.

Plus the better floor times, its much harder now to wake up at 6am then it was a few years ago. Thats a huge selling point for me.
