Pick your Flames Booms and Busts for this year
Interested to see what big surprises people think might happen for this year and who might have a terrible bust season..
For booms I'll go with Baertschi surprising us all and playing 3/4 of the season and actually doing something respectable like 20-20..
For busts I would say maybe David Jones or Engelland but those players are kind of expected to be busts, so I'll guess Stajan has a bad campaign and we all really regret the long term signing.

Boom - Glencross goes 30g 30a.
Bust - Monahan has a sophomore slump, goes 10g 10a and terrible +/-.

Boom: Backlund. He will surprise people offensively this year. I think he will put up 65 points.
Bust: Setoguchi. He will be what he has always been. A one dimensional offensive forward that relies on good line mates and PP time (which he won't get) to put up a marginal 20 points and 20 goals.

I think it's important to place the caveat of measurement and expectation.
Is Engelland a bust because he's the club's 6th best defenseman? Nope. Glencross and his salary/history should be a 20 goal guy so he can be held to a pretty high expectation, but bottom six forwards and 6th dmen shouldn't face the same scrutiny.

The bust compared to some fan expectation may be Gaudreau since a decent number of people here are predicting a lot from a rookie.

At least most fans are being conservative when predicting his point totals to be in the low three digits next year.

Monahan is going to really struggle this year. He'll end up an important piece IMO, but he'll have difficulty repeating last year never mind improving
