Default Bolts Go Wild... Bring in 3 Vets

Tampa and Minny hooked up on a deal. Details as follows...

TEAM: Minnesota Wild

Players/Picks from: Minnesota Wild

1. Fisher, Mike (C) NHL
2. Tyutin, Fedor (D) NHL
3. Erat, Martin (RW) NHL

Players/Picks from: Tampa Bay Lightning

1. Backstrom, Niklas (G) NHL
2. Setoguchi, Devin (RW) NHL
3. Olofsson, Gustav (C) ECHL
4. 2015 1st Round Draft Choice (tb)
5. 2015 2nd Round Draft Choice (tb)

Money: Minnesota Wild sends Tampa Bay Lightning $5070000 for the 2014-15 season.

Tampa is happy to get 3 players that will upgrade our depth immediately.
Backstrom and Setuguchi were not in our plans past this season. Giving up a first in a solid draft is never easy but Tampa Bay fans deserve to see some playoff hockey.

Surprisingly a complicated deal due to the cap situations of both teams.
For the Wild, though the team has played better - we have actually made zero progress in terms of chasing down a playoff spot and the mathematics are already no in our favor.

Fisher/Erat both had deals that next season were going to be tough to swallow. Tyutin was a UFA I likely wasn't going to re-sign.

In return we get another 1st, 2nd, Olofsson (a guy I drafted and like a lot) and Backstrom. Seto fills a roster hole for this season, and possibly could still be flipped.

Backstorm was immediately released for the $8.5M cap hit to free up 1.5M in space to be able to call up a couple guys to fill the roster holes created by the deal.

One of the things I'm trying to do here is free up cap space for UFA season. In my entire time as GM I've never had cap space to really compete for free agents - I typically get a couple in the later batches, but never have anywhere near the space for some of the bigger names. Looking forward to having fun with that in the summer as a new aspect to the game for me.

Makes sense, and I must say that I am a little happy to see one of the teams on my heels unload a few players.

I think the Wild did very well on their return.. depending how you value draft picks.
