They are actually quite slow, almost sloth like dexterity, so as long as you don't startle them they are fine.

Exactly, Its the tail you have to worry about. You never confront one from behind. The tail is like a whip, other than that their demeanor is that of an over sized hedgehog.

There is a weird one that only eats the skins. To each their own I suppose. The rest usually just eat the fleshy part.
