Default Guardians of the Galaxy **SPOILERS**

Just got back from the preview of Guardians of the Galaxy. Damn that was a fun movie.

I thought a new thread was in order to so we could discuss the finer points of arguably the best Marvel movie to be released yet.

My only disappointment was not getting to see the end credits scene. They didn't release it for the preview audiences.

Ya I didn't get the end credits scene at the premiere at Chinook last night.

"They got my dick message!"

Such a great movie. Pretty cool to finally see Thanos. Even funnier than I thought it was going to be. Lots of great small cameos too. Even Cosmos! Although I was hoping to see an actual Nova in the Nova corps.

This movie is Green Lantern bad.

I am really glad I didn't have to pay to see it or I would have actually asked for my money back. And the only reason I went was to see the end of credits scene, which we didn't even get. I want my two hours back.

GotG = 89% on RT.

Guardians of the Galaxy is just as irreverent as fans of the frequently zany Marvel comic would expect -- as well as funny, thrilling, full of heart, and packed with visual splendor.

Green Lantern = 26% on RT.

Noisy, overproduced, and thinly written, Green Lantern squanders an impressive budget and decades of comics mythology.

Amazing movie. It offers a movie that's a lot different than what comic book movies usually are, and hits it out of the park. Everyone in my theater seemed to enjoy it, and it was even funnier than most comedies I've seen. It sort of reminded me of Star Wars meets Star Trek, just with bounty hunters. The movie actually does make you care about each of the characters, even a raccoon, a meat head who can't understand metaphors, and a tree only capable of saying three (well four) words.

Oh and for those wondering we get Howard the Duck in the end credit sequence! I dunno what to make of that, but it was fun seeing him show up. If Guardians ends up being the home run it should be, maybe someday we'll get another Howard the Duck movie.

I think GreenLantern is probably just jealous that this movie is what Green Lantern could have been had they put actual effort into it. I can't see how anyone could compare the two, other than they both take place in space.

Haven't seen it yet, but may check it out. I remember the comic being weird and of the cuff. Comic book movies have been getting far too preachy lately.

I was just using the Green Lantern movie as a comparison for crapiness. This movie was not funny, the main actor tried way to hard to be Han Solo or Captain Kirk and the over the top CGI was just out of hand for me.. like who directed this? The spawn of Peter Jackson and Micheal Bay?

Next.

James Gunn actually. who directed Super, which itself was a great movie. Guardians was nothing like a Michael Bay movie, and only a fanboy would say the two are alike at all. The jealously is this one is strong.

I've been one of the most vocal supporters of Marvels great movies, like the Avengers and Cap 2. I also said that the new X-Men movie (while not being made by Marvel is still a Marvel product) was the best comic book based movie to date.

Yes I like DC, but it is not clouding my judgement when it comes to these movies. I just flat out didn't like it, I am allowed to not like things.

Is this movie ok for a 7 yr old? He has seen the Hobbit movies and stuff. I wanna know if there are a lot of sexual content or swear words?

If he's seen The Hobbit it's probably ok, there's some killing of course but it's not especially graphic. There's maybe 5-6 swear words. A few adult jokes but nothing much in the way of sexual content.

Awesome movie! Stay until the end of the credits for the ultimate teaser of what may be Gunn's next contribution to the Marvel universe on the big screen. I hope he does it and makes Lucas look like a chump!

It didn't live up to The Avengers, but damn it came close. Amazing given this is a movie of C-list Marvel superheroes. It was actually one of the few movies where I wanted to simply turn around and buy a ticket for the next showing. Even if only to count the number of callbacks to previous films (12% of a plan).

Also, I wonder if Zoe Saldana being painted various alien colours becomes something of an ongoing joke in her future roles...

Guardians is looking like it's going to be a huge hit, taking in a massive 95 million+ over its first weekend. Which is great considering we're more likely to get other unique universes in the future. That's also only 20 million dollars less than Green Lantern made during it's entire North American run haha. Green Lantern also had a higher production budget, and yet it looked worse than any of the Star Wars prequels.

Just another massive triumph for Marvel, they can do no wrong. Meanwhile DC will go two years without releasing anything... pretty one-sided contest (if you can even call it that).
