Summary:

on the last couple of weeks:
  • have to keep everything in perspective
  • in the last 5 games haven't done enough to generate points
  • in these last 5 games, there are still good things happening
  • the ice isn't tilted for 60 minutes,
  • last home game against San Jose may have been the best of the year
  • 2/3 of the game in Toronto was good
  • Buffalo-majority of the game we played well
  • one of the messages want to get through - "Yes we had a great start... but there are critical moments that come that you have to push through"
  • somebody has to put their thumb into the dyke and say there needs to be a push
  • the one break is going the wrong way for us right now

on execution:
  • the basis for our team is hard work and compete, now it is what you do after that which is execution
  • big portion of games are won in both paints - Buffalo game: we weren't hard enough on Enroth and we didn't protect our paint enough
  • told Johnny to keep doing those moves, 99/100 he scores. he just didn't execute

on whether he plans on making changes after the losses:
  • have to pull back from the emotion
  • at the end of the day if you do the right things long enough you will have success
  • don't want to be reactive after a game or short sequence of games
  • you still look for ways to help the team
  • it is still a process
  • net result of wins and losses have not been good, but metrics we measure have had an uptick

on discourgement/frustration:
  • coaches have to reinforce everyday
  • understands frustration, but you need to focus energy into fixing it with video and how you approach practice
  • reinforce good habits and belief system

on whether other teams are adjusting to the Flames:
  • doesn't know what is happening in other dressing rooms
  • coming into games now that where maybe they aren't taking you lightly anymore, but that is part of being a good team and you need to overcome it
  • we have to get back to the win column

on Corey Potter and the 3rd pairing:
  • we talked about our 3rd dpairing
  • top 4 has played so well
  • Ladi got hurt, so we wanted 7 dmen
  • Corey has been the best player in Adirondack - they continuously monitor
  • we need more out of Derek and Rafi
  • it is an area we look at

on the returning players from injury:
  • yes we had good chemistry before Raymond, Colborne and Stajan returned
  • always concerned about chemistry, should be better on paper with them, but the game is not played on paper
  • just a matter of getting them up to speed
  • not overly concerned about it
  • they are good players, things we need to create as a group of players not a group of 3

on the mumps:
  • not sure what to say
  • had the guys take shots a couple of weeks ago
  • its bizarre
  • disconcerting thing is that it doesn't seem to be going away

You really know Edmonton is No Good when the Calgary GM was on the radio five hours ago and there's only two posts.

Don't take this one personally SureLoss. Thanks for all the updates.

I listened to it and he's a very well spoken guy and very calm and definitely seems to be very balanced in his approach. Kind of guy you want in charge.

What exactly do you expect him to say?

Secrets. Strategies.

You know, all that stuff that no one ever says.

I am, of course, joking. At this point I am just happy he hasn't signed any more Engelland's or traded anymore picks away for useless 4th liners.

How does one "say" substance in the GM business? Isn't that only possible through actions?

Even if he doesn't say much, it shows that he's aware of all the things that we as fans are discussing at the moment and that he has the same concerns, and that is encouraging. Being on the same page as the fan base is a pretty big deal for the management group.

Speaking of awareness... has someone ironed the back drops yet?

They actually get folded up and put in storage crates after a press conference. That's why they look wrinkled all the time.

If we think for a second about what goes on in Oilers nation after a GM presser, I would say it's a good thing that the main concern in this thread is how to get the wrinkles out of the back drops.
