Dell Laptop DVD-RW replacement advice

Hey,

The DVD-RW on my parent's Dell Inspiron 17R died and I'm looking to find a replacement drive for them. I've already emailed Dell and since the laptop is out of warranty they would charge about $150 which is out of the question.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not looking for anything too expensive but I don't want something that dies in a year or two like the other one. The one they did have is a L-DT-ST DVD+- RW GT50N.

Go external. Rarely need it these days and then you can move it to new PC or laptops, which less often are coming with optical drives

I ended up ordering the one that oilyfan suggested from NCIX but haven't picked it up yet so I could always try and switch it.

I have an Asus external drive that works like a charm. I think it was about $20.
