Forbes Annual NHL Teams Valuation

The arena thread got me thinking about this annual list, and it turns out Forbes updated the list just today.

Highlights:

- 3 teams valued over $1B each (Rangers, Leafs, Canadiens)
- Flames ranked 13th in estimated value at $451M. Estimated Value of the club in 10-11 was $220M
- The franchise with the least estimated value in 13-14 is the Panthers at $190M
- Rangers had the highest estimated income (EBITDA) of $84.4M. The Panthers had the lowest at -$15.6M

- League wide revenues estimated at $3.7B, up from the last full season pre-lockout (11-12) of $3.374B
- League overall had estimated Income (EBITDA) of $453.4M, up from $250.3 in 11-12
- Estimated league Income (EBITDA) was 12.25% of revenue, up from 7.42% in 11-12
- 20 teams had estimated positive Income (EBITDA) in 13-14, compared to 17 in 11-12

Damn. Jackets have a nice playoff appearance, increase their season tickets by a third (from 6000 to 8000), only to have their season totally derailed by injuries.

Either way they need to tone down the ads. I leave sites like that in a hurry. Adult sites aren't even that bad.

Debt financing for a new arena might put a drag on the valuation, but new revenues from the new arena would likely make operating the team more profitable.
