Notes from Nov 14 Practice
Notes from Nov 14 Practice
per Steinberg the lines were:
Ferland-Monahan-Jones
Gaudreau-Granlund-Hudler
Baertschi-Jooris-Byron
Bollig-Bouma-Setoguchi
McGrattan and Reinhart were extras
- Colborne and Raymond continue to skate before the main group
- Glencross was missing from main group, Hartley called it maintenance and said Glencross should be good for tomorrow
- Ferland took Glencross' place on Monahan's line just for this practice
- "He lost his step with his concussion, being totally shut down ... As soon as his pace is back ... He'll be back." - Hartley on Ferland
- based on lines it looks like McGrattan and Reinhart will be out against the Senators and Bollig and Setoguchi will draw back in
- Ramo confirmed starter for Ottawa per Hartley

Scoring Winger

Giving Setoguchi another opportunity however he has been reduced to 4th line duty. If it was ever do or die time it's definitely now for him.

Great to hear about Ferland. Sounds like it is just a matter of ramping him back up to game speed. Can't wait to see him play again!

Damn, I hate concussions. Worst injury for a player, just because of the recurring natuer and what it means for the rest of the guy's career.

Who would you play instead against the Sens? I don't think they need McGrattan and IMO Seto > Bollig.

Seto > Bollig. Look how I countered your argument!
Seriously - how is Bollig a better hockey player than Setoguchi? Is the same true of Byron and Baertschi? Because when they played otgether they achieved the same results (and Setoguchi was said to have had good games, even if they didn't produce). Wheras Bollig is no good.
I agree about Reinhart.

Meh, I know we're frustrated with it, but I honestly don't see the big deal. Burke, Treliving and Hartley have shown they won't force kids up the chart or into positions they aren't capable of until they are ready, that's good. In order to do that however they must use vets in those spots until a younger player is ready.
A top left or right winger isn't ready? Okay use Glencross or Jones for now. Such and such guy isn't ready for a 2nd line role? okay use Setoguchi? It makes perfect sense to me.
The organization won't force young players into roles they aren't ready for, so they use vets as place cards. It's fine. It's not a big deal. The past year and a half have shown these guys know what they're doing when it comes to bringing along talent.

Can't argue Seto has been the weakest link on the team so far.
0 points and a -7, worst on the team by a decent margin.

All Setoguchi has done is show us how good Joe Thornton really is. Same can be said for Cheechoo.

Also been fed PP minutes, when he obviously doesn't deserve them.
Was nice to see Byron and Baertschi have some success last night without the offense killer that is Setoguchi playing on their line.

Use +/- and people will criticize it as a useless stat
Of course, you also have to work that out over minutes played. Bollig plays 6 minutes a game or so. He doesn't have as much time to get his minuses.
Seto's PP time was definitely not pretty.

Joe Thornton should be first ballot HOF but likely won't because he doesn't have a cup. There are only 41 players who have scored more than him. To bad he's terrible in the playoffs (-27!!)

Whats too bad is that so is the rest of the team, and he takes all the #### for it.

It could be argued that that just shows how inept of a leader he was.

They actually haven't even been that bad in the POs, compared to a lot of teams. Since the 04 they've gone to the Semis 7 times and the Conference Finals 3 times. Never out of the POs. Only 2 first round exits.
They just haven't made the Stanley Cup Finals. But lots of teams haven't done that.

Hiller had two poor games in a row. Start Ramo against the Senators and keep him in as long as he wins.

Ramo does need some time. He needs to recover from the last outing as well.

Agreed. The belief amongst most is that a team that has been so good should have put the pedal down and finished, therefore making every playoff performance a bad one in some light. Especially blowing a 3 game series lead. I really don't think you can blame a complete breakdown like that on one guy. If he is that bad of a leader in the captaincy role, what does it say for the rest of the team in nobody could stand up and take over when the going gets tough.
