Flames vs. Senators, 8 p.m., HNIC CBC
I'm not going to screw around with funny pictures or anything this morning. Instead, I want everyone to watch this piece on Bryan Murray. Pay attention and learn something from it. Take the 5 minutes out of your day. We are in the middle of the "Hockey Fights Cancer" campaign, and awareness is more than half the battle. If you're over 50 and have not had a colonoscopy, go get one, now. I'll wait.

Flames: 10-6-2; 22 points, 3rd in Pacific, 5th West, 9th League
Senators: 8-4-4; 20 points, 4th in Atlantic, 6th East, 11th League
The Senators are another team still struggling with consistency. They started the year 4-1, even beating the Lightning who have been great so far this year. since then they've been struggling, with only 3 regulation wins in their last 11. Recently, most of their games have gone to OT or shootout, with a 1-1-2 record in their last 4, meaning they're keeping the games close. A big part of that is the play of Craig Anderson, who is having an "up" year after a "down" year last year, which is what he's done over his entire career. He boasts a .942 Sv% and a 2.05 GAA over his 10 games this year. Lehner has been no slouch either with a .913 Sv%, however, you can see the defense gives up high quality chances with Lehner's 2.96 GAA despite his solid Sv%. Anderson just seems to be stopping more of those high quality chances. The back end lacks a top end shutdown defenseman to go with Karlsson's high flying attack. Chris Phillips is a gamer, but at this stage of his career shouldn't be playing more than 2nd pairing minutes. The rest are a mish-mash of bottom 4 defenders that don't have much high end skill.
The offense has been a small issue for the Senators. Clarke MacArthur leads the team with 12 points, and even Karlsson hasn't been as dangerous as he normally is with 11 points in 16 games. Bobby Ryan hasn't done much since he signed his big contract with 9 points and just 3 goals on the year. Paul Byron, David Jones, and Josh Jooris have as many goals as Ryan. A nice surprise has been Mike Hoffman, who has 7 goals on the year playing 4th line minutes, with the help of strong play from Curtis Lazar. Hoffman has been red hot, with 6 of those goals in the last 5 games and 2 against Edmonton in his last game, including the OT winner. The Sens just don't have anyone playing at a 1st line level, but they have plenty of serviceable players that give a lot of effort. To be honest, the Sens were lucky to win that game as they had a 3-0 lead halfway through the game that they couldn't hold on to or build on. They were just fortunate enough to be playing the Oilers. Scrivens let in a ridiculously soft goal in OT, giving points away yet again. No good.
The Flames came off a solid win over the Coyotes, where they dominated the play from start to finish, save for the odd shift of Coyotes pressure. Hiller had a shaky performance, but stuck with it and came through with enough for the win. It looks like Hiller is ready for a break, and Ramo needs some more playing time, so Ramo will get the start against the Senators. Giordano extended his point streak to 8 games with a goal, continuing his red hot play of late. Monahan had a veteran Langkow-esque goal, cleaning up the garbage in front of the net and digging the puck out of 3 defenders and the goalie. Hartley on that play: "he was digging so much I thought he had a round shovel instead of a stick". Sven Baertschi had his best game as a Flame in more than a calendar year, being aggressive, forcing turnovers, and creating offense for his previously snake-bitten line mate Paul Byron. If not for a very unlucky post in the 3rd with the net empty, Byron would have had his first career hat trick. David Jones had a 2 point night with 1G and 1A, giving him 5 points in his last 5 games.
Reinhart and McGrattan are likely out tonight, Bollig and Setoguchi back in.

If the Senators put in the effort against Calgary that they did against Edmonton, this game will get out of hand quickly. The Senators have the slowest defense in the league and if the forwards aren't helping out Calgary's forecheck will own the Ottawa zone.

The best part about your game threads is the inevitable Edmonton slam somewhere in each one

would like to B at the game...
Nice Piece on Bryan Murray - thanks for that!
I think the B & B attack continues today..
Playing in his 100th NHL game and against the team the represents his Birth city, Byron scores on Breakaway - assist from Baertschi and proBaBly Brodie.
4th line contiButes too. Bouma Booms one in from Brandon Bollig.
RamBo plays well.
and of course Johnny will B. good.

Funny coincidence calling Ramo RamBo... Cause John Rambo's radio call sign was Raven.

Jones has really impressed me the past couple games.
Playing with a purpose out there. Using his wheels and crashing the net, and picking up goals for us. I quite like this version of David Jones. Easy to bash him for being brittle but I think he's seen a lot out of this team from the press box and now that he's healthy has decided to buy in to the energy and work ethic. Good to see.
Hoping to see a Gaudreau goal tonight. He needs to start to even his stats a little. Also Forsberg is starting to pull ahead in the race.

I'm glad they kept Setoguchi scratched. He's just not helping the team win games in any way.
Bollig needed the time off IMO. He was starting to float a little. Grats will be the odd man out all year unfortunately for him since Bollig and Engelland provide toughness and steady play…well Engelland so far anyway. I'm really hoping to see Bollig bring more over the next few games.

I hope Sven continues playing like he did the last game. I have been watching him a lot lately when he is in the lineup and he is steadily improving.
I am predicting a 4-3 win for the flames. Gio, Mony, Bouma and Scoreface get in on the action. Ramo plays a great game at home and makes the decision tough on Hartley moving forward.
Let's go flames!!

I'm hoping Sven gets a season high ice time, maybe 13 or 14 minutes.

Me too, because that means he'll have earned it. As we saw last game with Baertschi getting higher minutes and time on the powerplay after playing very well, the only obstacle for him in getting more minutes is himself
