Notes from Nov 12 Practice
a little bit discussed in the Volchenkov/Ferland thread but I think this now deserves a thread of it's own
per Derek Wills lines and pairings:
Glencross-Monahan-Jones
Gaudreau-Granlund-Hudler
Baertschi-Byron-Jooris
Reinhart-Bouma-McGrattan
Bollig-Ferland-Setoguchi
Giordano-Brodie
Russell-Wideman
Smid-Engelland
Diaz
Hiller
Ramo
- this is the first time Ferland skated with the main group since his concussion on Oct 31st. Hartley says Ferland will need 5-6 days to get up to speed
- Colborne and Raymond skated on their own before the main group
- Bollig and Setoguchi are confirmed to be sitting out against Phoenix, Baertschi and McGrattan draw back in
- Hiller is confirmed starter against Phoenix
- Hartley has no updates on Colborne, Stajan, Backlund, or Raymond, but says none of them are close to returning

Surprising but pleasing to see McGrattan in for the 2 big under performers. He might not be any better than Seto or Bollig, but I bet my life that he has stayed positive, not gotten frustrated and been patient despite the fact he's sat in the press box for a fair while now. Deserves a run out, hopefully he can prove that he still has something left to give Hockey wise.
Also pleasing to see Jooris moved off the 4th line, he has shown enough to suggest he should play on the 3rd line as a minimum for me. Happy with those lines I've got to say.

Hartley also confirmed Setoguchi and Bollig will sit tomorrow. McGrattan and Baertschi back in. Ferland a few days away. #Flames

Why is Hiller in? He was terrible against Carolina.

Because he's the starting goalie and you don't sit the starter after one bad game in which everyone was terrible.

I'm guessing that if he starts poorly, he may get the hook.

Not sure why Glencross keeps geting slotted on the top line.
He's almost turned into Rene Bourque. Although he does still hit people every once in a while.
I'm betting when Colborne and Raymond come back that will change.

Don't forget, Ramo was pretty bad against Florida in his last start. Why should Hiller get the bench for a bad start when Ramo is in the exact same position?

I think it's fair to criticize. Hartley has been saying something along the lines of "if you play well and win, you keep the net". Well Hiller did neither last game, so it stands to reason that Ramo should get another start, especially against the weaker offense of the Coyotes.
Ramo was definitely not looking too good in Florida, and I think it was reported that he tweaked something in practice and hasn't been right since.

To be honest I think the Baertschi - Byron - Jooris line could be dynamite.

You never know, that injury that Ramo suffered in practice before the Panthers game might be annoying him just enough that it's better that Hiller starts.

I really hope we see Baertschi take a couple minutes from Glencross at some point tomorrow.
Definitely a long shot, but Glencross is unbearable to watch anymore and I really want to see that Baertschi-Monahan magic rekindled.

This is what it should be:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Jones (Johnny and Mony have good chemistry)
Reinhart-Granlund-Hudler (Max and Granny have good chemistry in Addy/Abby)
Baertschi-Byron-Jooris (Sven gets to play with 2 skating dynamites)
Glencross-Bouma-McGrattan (Glencross gets to go back to being a bottom 6 forward where he succeeds)

Steinberg has these lines:
Glencross-Monahan-Jones
Gaudreau-Granlund-Hudler
Baertschi-Jooris-Byron
Bouma-Reinhart-McGrattan
I like this one.

That forward group won't win many games on their own, but it's nice to see all the young talent in the line-up. If you count Byron and Bouma (and I would) the Flames have 9 youngsters in the forward group.

Agreed. Glencross was at his best when he was an overachieving 3rd liner, not an underachieving top liner.
I wouldn't even mind him being sat down. In 2010 he was a healthy scratch a couple times (the Flames had an abundance of fwds playing that year) and he ersponded pretty well.

That's who he's been playing with pretty regularly lately. I think Hartley may be drawing checkers or top line guys to Monahan to free up Gaudreau/Hudler. They certainly had more chances in the Canes game.

*facepalm* Monahan's recent hot streak was with those players on his wing the majority of the time.
I wish people would stop and think before posting hate for players that is nothing more than rhetoric.
