Man Wiki updates happen quickly.

This doesn't help inspire confidence in NASA.

This was an Orbital Sciences rocket and spacecraft.

The mission was run by NASA.

You guys realize this wasn't a NASA rocket right?

I hope everyone is okay!

There was a Planetary Resources satellite on board... what a big blow for them.

Yup and as such the safety failure will pretty much fall at the feet of NASA.

Information:

The rocket was an Antares rocket, made by Orbital Sciences.

The spacecraft was a Cygnus spacecraft, made by Orbital Sciences.

The mission, Cygnus CRS Orb-3, was a resupply mission to the ISS.

The mission was also to deliver a Planetary Resources Arkyd 3 cubesat to the ISS for future launch from the ISS itself.

All of the hardware was Orbital Sciences. NASA was running the mission.

The launch site was the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA Wallops Flight Facility.

The problem is, that the general public who watches this for 15 seconds on the news while eating dinner, will not care about this information or spend any time trying to learn/understand it

Its going to likely perpetuate the idea that anything to do with space exploration is a waste of tax payer dollars

Unfortunate

Bill Nye summed it up best:

#Antares- no injuries, but lots of money and effort up in smoke. Lessons will be learned from this. Space is hard. Onward. @exploreplanets

They'll wish we kept spending the money when a gamma ray burst comes along and kills us all on this rock...

I loved that article

I prefer the planet getting stringified by a rogue black hole myself.

Not to derail this thread too much but my wife and I had some good debate about it. Despite things like the gamma ray burst I just can't believe that in the vastness of our galaxy alone some form of intelligent life hasn't been able to survive and be older than us.
