Any word as to what he's doing?

I'm assuming they low balled him and he's negotiating for more money. I don't believe he has an arbitration hearing.

I just hope he doesn't decide to hold out. I think he's a useful cog moving forward. And a young one too.

He deserves some money, because the way he plays, he's not going to have a long career.

If Bouma was concerned about not signing or negotiations going poorly, he could have filed for arbitration much like Colborne did.

The fact he has not would seem that there are negotiations. Perhaps he's on vacation and dealing with all this when he returns. Edit: Actually I recall seeing something from Conroy when they announced the Bennett signing that the negotiations with Bouma had just started, so it's barely been a week or so? Again, no where near time to panic.

If it was September 1st and we've heard nothing, then maybe we can be a little concerned.

Good point. Wasn't sure if he qualified for arbitration.

Let's hope your assumption is correct. I like Bouma and what he brings to the team.

And I'm assuming Burke and Treliving do too.

Is this because of Bouma's truculent tendencies?

I think he's waiting for Subban to sign to set the market for him before he signs anything with the Flames.

Both parties probably agreed on something but just not rushing to sign the contract. Lance Bouma will be part of this team comes training camp and all through the season.

Bouma's a beauty. One day he'll be wearing a letter for this team.

It's not holding out if there is no contract to hold out on.

Bouma was not eligible for arbitration, I think he has 1 more year to go before he qualifies as he just completed his ELC.

I don't believe this is correct.

Bouma will be on his 3rd contract once he signs this as he completed his ELC in 2012-13, signed a one year for 2013-14 and then an RFA again.

Joe Colborne was in the same situation. ELC finished his ELC in 2012-13, signed a one year deal for 2013-14 and became an RFA.

Almost identical situations other then Bouma had a one year ELC slide for 2009-10 and his contract only kicked in for 2010-11.

As per the rules:

Quote:
Some restricted free agents are eligible for salary arbitration, if the following conditions are met

For players signing their entry-level contract at age 18 or 19 (but who will not turn 20 in the same calendar year that the entry-level contract was signed), a season of professional experience is at least 10 NHL games played, and at least four such seasons must be accrued for arbitration eligibility.

For players signing their entry-level contract at age 20 (or who will turn 20 in the same year that the entry-level contract is signed), a season of professional experience is at least 10 professional (non-collegiate) games played, and at least four such seasons must be accrued for arbitration eligibility.

For players signing their entry-level contract at age 21 or older, arbitration eligibility comes at the expiration of a player's first contract.
Bouma signed on October 7, 2009 at the age of 19.

could the part of the hold up be maybe a difference between a 1 way and a 2 way or has he proven enough already that a 1 way is a given?

Bit OT but I just wanted to say him, gio, and backs were my favourite players to watch this last year with monahan a close fourth. I want this guy in our bottom 6 for the next 10 years, he's a guy you win with.

I am pretty sure I heard on the radio (I believe it was with Conroy on the morning show) that he is NOT eligible for arbitration.

I wonder how close the flames are to their roster limit? Need room for the 16th August signing attempt of a certain free agent...?

They have mucho rooma. Right now they sit at 47 contracts out of a possible 50 and probably 3 of these will slide. I'm not sure if Billins will be counted either since he's signed in the KHL.

Not even close to it. The limit is 50, and they are at 45 without Bouma signed.

Of those 45, Bennett, Klimchuk, and Kanzig won't count unless they play 10 NHL games.
