Icon40 Pens re-sign Fleury to 4yr extension ($5.75 mil AAV)

http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.ht...t-twt-penguins

Quote:
The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to a four-year contract extension, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.

The deal begins with the 2015-16 season and runs through the 2018-19 campaign, and has an average annual value of $5.75 million.

“I believe in Marc-Andre Fleury, as the team does,” said Rutherford, a former goaltender. “He’s won before and he will win again. We’re very pleased to have him signed long term.”

But who's going to backstop them to the promised land? MAF, good regular season goalie, terrible when the games count!

I guess Pens fans will be holding their breath and crossing their fingers during the playoffs for the next 4 years.

I thought they would have traded for another goalie, not re-signed Fleury.

Its not like he hasn't won in the past. I guess they figure he's the only real option they have....

via Pierre LeBrun
Fleury deal is $5.75 million in each year; includes no-move clause and limited no-trade.

Ditto.

Its not like hes not good in the playoffs, its not even that hes bad, its the fact that hes a completely unapologetic trainwreck.

I cant even think of another goalie with worse playoff performances.

It was getting to the point where people wondered if he could literally, not figuratively but literally, stop a beach ball. Every shot that went anywhere near him went in and few that werent even close and he had to work to get them in there.

They went and signed him when he's playing very well EARLY IN THE SEASON.

Honestly, he wasn't even good when he won the cup. They won despite him, not because of him.

Why?

Seriously why would you do that?

Did they get dropped on their head or something.

Be careful saying stuff like that. I got a tongue lashing last week for saying the same about Bouwmeester on the Olympic team!

He is a pretty average goalie propped up by a good team.

I guess the fear of downgrading the position by letting him walk is worth the extra money to sign him long term.

Not surprised that they re-signed him, kinda surprised that it was for so much money, really surprised that they gave a NMC/NTC. Fleury won that negotiation.
