Jordan is a quality Dman and will help the BJ's. he must have had a no-trade clause because Edmonton would have given a 4th for him.

Columbus really need some healthy bodies. Blues really needed the cap space. Makes sense except Chris Butler is not a final solution for them. They'll need someone else if they want to make a cup run.

BUTLER!
I haven't seen Leopold in a while but if he's still decent he would have been a big upgrade for the Flames defense over one of the 3rd pairing guys for a 5th pick.
EDIT: looks like Leopold has been scratched most of the year. Blues have a deep blue line but he's probably fallen off. Also Butler will be the 7th guy not playing much barring injuries.

Blues retain $500k
Lou Korac @lkorac10
#stlblues retain $500,000 of Leopold's pro-rated $2.25 million in the deal. It immediately creates $1.1 million in pro rated cap space.

Good move by John Davidson. The Blues have made some questionable moves since he left and I believe it's moving them further and further from Stanley cup contention. I think they reached their apex last year, prior to the Miller trade.

Bouw has played with Pietrangelo nearly all season. Can you imagine his face if Hitchcock indeed decided to pair him with Butler? Lol
Good deal for both sides.

Butler will be taking Leopolds spot in the pressbox. This move was to get wasted cap space off the books. Leopold should get some playing time with the blue jackets.

Yeah but do you really want to go into the playoffs with a distinct possibility of Butler playing games? He was a liability in the regular season where the intensity isn't anything near what it is in the playoffs. I can only imagine how many brutal giveaways he'll commit when he has guys bearing down on him with everything they have.
In short, Butler is no good.

I get what you are saying, but what 7th dman,is good enough, that a team would want him playing regular playing minutes in the playoffs?

1. Jarmo Kekäläinen is the General Manager in Columbus
2. The Blues are currently on a 9-1-0 tear, and soon-to-be 23-year-old Vladimir Tarasenko is tied for fourth in league scoring. Things look pretty good in St. Louis.

I hope Butler loses them enough games to finish 9th, unlikely but if he has to play top 6 they are screwed. He was crying one game last year after a turnover that resulted in a goal. Good luck with that St. Louis.

also, Jori Lehtera. That Schwartz-Lehtera-Tarasenko line has been nothing but awesome. The Blues are a contender, without a doubt.

I still don't like the direction they've moved since Davidson left and time will tell for the rest.
Do you honestly think the trades they've made the last two years have made them better?

The Blues are a very good team. I don't think they'll make it out of the west and I think they're on the way down.

They presently look like a championship calibre team. The only real question right now for the Blues is in goal, but Elliot and Allen have so far have been great for them. I certainly don't think that any of their recent trades have hurt them, and what makes the difference for them is that their young, drafted players are emerging into stars. More importantly, with the core they have developed, the Blues look like they will remain competitive for a long, long time. This is what every team wants.
What glaring mistakes have they made in the last two years that have set them back?
