Default Jose Canseco Shoots Himself in Hand, Looses Middle Finger

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11...and-police-say

Quote:
Former major league slugger Jose Canseco is recovering after shooting himself in the hand at his Las Vegas home.

Jose Canseco told police he was cleaning his gun in the kitchen when it fired, shooting a finger on his left hand.
Metro police Lt. Mark Reddon says officers responded to a call of an accidental shooting shortly after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Reddon says Canseco told police he was cleaning his gun in the kitchen when it fired, shooting a finger on his left hand. He was taken to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.

Canseco's fiancee, Leila Knight, tweeted from his account late Tuesday night, saying he was still in surgery and would be OK.

He's just lucky he didn't have his head knocked clean off by Hong Man Choi. Could have been worse.

I don't think this should be surprising to anyone.

Maybe steroids can help him grow a replacement finger.

Is it normal for a gun to be loaded when cleaning it?

is it normal to try to wash a car while driving?

Sorry for the jerk comment, but no, you always assume a weapon is loaded before you do anything. When you clean it you drop the magazine, rack the slide back and make sure that there is no round in the chamber visually and physically by using your finger to check the chamber.

only then is the weapon is safe for cleaning.

Kind of what I thought, but I know nothing about guns.

Your analogy is fricking hilarious though.

And coffee all over my keyboard. Wish I could thank that post more than once.

I'm seriously confused as to how that even happens. There's no way he could have actually been cleaning it. Prepping to clean maybe? All I know is the first thing I do when cleaning is empty the magazine and drop a bore snake in to make sure there's nothing in the barrel. It should be virtually impossible for a gun to accidentally fire when cleaning it.

I can't imagine handguns are much different. Mind you I also can't imagine how there's as many gun accidents in the world as there are.

It's okay, guns are not for everyone and I love guns myself. But some idiots like Jose shouldn't have them because it's quite obvious that he isn't safe with is weapons.

I'd be willing to bet that he had a negligent discharge while playing with the gun like in Capt Crunch's gif. and used the "cleaning" as an excuse. I've said it before, a gun/firearm is a tool, albeit a dangerous tool and as soon as you don't respect that tool someone will be hurt if not killed.

I have no sympathy for him and his stupid actions. Lucky for him he only lost a finger and nothing more.

It really upsets me because it's idiots like this that make all of us gun owners look like morons. It's like the one bad cop making all the other cops look bad.

I don't think it's possible to actually clean your gun with a bullet in the chamber.

Like, maybe if you're polishing the handle or something, but, to properly clean a firearm it has to be disassembled.

Maybe during the process of disassembly the gun went off, but, honestly, step one is clear the magazine, step too is clear the chamber. Those are always the first two steps.

The funniest part of this is that the preview of this thread from the main page just shows "Jose Canseco shoots himself"

And I'm like "yeah, that makes sense"
