not enough. Repeat offender, did the same in the playoffs. He deserved 10.

Kreider should have been suspended too.

I would have given him a bit more, 6 or 7 games. He's a repeat offender and the hit to the head looks intentional.

Yikes. For some reason that hit makes me an anxious, yet positive, black and tan coonhound.

Wow, I disagree with every mitigating factor set out in the reasons. It was late, I do not agree it was a legal hit and I do not agree that initial contact was with the shoulder. Terrible hit. Hard to even argue there was no intent to injure. There was no way that hit at that angle after the puck had been shot was not going to result in a head injury...and for a repeat offender. What are they doing?

Driving with the elbow on a late hit that directly targeted the head from a repeat offender gets 5 games. I've never believed the NHL was that serious about preventing these injuries and here's more evidence of that. Until the league sees a drop in revenue and profit nothing will ever change.

Not enough. The problem I have with this hit, compared to many others is that Haula actually had his head up. So often it seems like receiving players don't do enough to protect themselves (heads down in the neutral zone, turning into the boards, etc...).
This is the definition of a blindside elbow. I was hoping for closer to 7-8 games to really send a message.

7-8 games wouldn't do anything, it's the difference between losing 2 weeks pay and 2 and a half weeks pay. 30 or 40 might change things.

Blame the NHLPA as well, they don't take injuries to their membership seriously, either.
Now that I'm getting older, the more these leagues are unwilling to punish their players for things that are clearly against the rules, the less interested I am in watching them.
It's about credibility, and the NHL has precious little at this point in regards to player injuries. This bleeds into other aspects of the game. Is anyone surprised we've seen more blatant and egregious nutshots in the last 6 months than in the last 6 years? OF course not, the league refused to police the incidents.
This is more of the same.
While i'm on my soapbox I strongly dislike how the league uses financial penalty to remedy a foul on the ice. The infraction occurs on the ice and the punishment should reflect that.
If you are suspended your team should be down a roster spot, plain and simple. They'll do it for a domestic violence charge but not for a targeted malicious hit.

When I saw Bettman completely dismiss the autopsy results from the 2011 summer of enforcer deaths I knew they don't care at all. It all comes down to money and the decisions in terms of player safety are foremostly influenced by the economics.
