QOTD: Who is Joe Colborne?
came to Calgary heralded as the next David Steckel, moved to the wing, then back to center, then back to the wing.
Seems to be the poster boy for wanting to be here, and getting in front of microphones.
Now has 8 assists in 9 games to start an NHL season suggesting he may just be more than a Steckel or a third line center.
Who is this guy?

I just hope he keeps playing the way he's been playing. If he keeps producing like this you can call him anything you want, as long as it's a Calgary Flame.

Didn't 3 of those come in 1 game? Not sure that makes him a top 6 guy, so I went 3rd line, but would suggest he could be a modern Joel Otto which would be the best 3rd line center you could ask for.

He looks better on the wing, the big body is great for mucking behind the net on the forecheck.

Went with utility player.
I think he is a good, 3rd line winger. he may be top 6 here but on a playoff competitor (or when this team is built to compete) i think he will fill a 3rd line, 30 point winger very well.

I see him as a bigger (and hopefully healthier) David Moss. A big guy who is probably best as a third line winger, but has enough jam to get promoted all the way up the lineup on any given night.

I think people are selling Joe short here. He was drafted and projected to be a top 6 player and that is what he is breaking out as.

Agreed, I think he should be on Monahan's line and if we end up with Monahan on the third line then fine, he's a third liner but I think they'll grow together to be a pretty solid second line tandem.

I kind of get the impression that very few will be happy unless he breaks out and becomes a top 6 player. I'm not a huge fan of his but I think he's perfectly fine on the third line and could carve out a hell of a career in that role. I just hope people don't always tag the "potential" tag to him and can give the guy a break if this is all he is over the course of his career.

Joe was always a project and it is really hard for teams that draft these players to see them through. Heck I remeber 4-5 years ago when the trade Iggy talk was starting to make rounds Boston fans on HF tried to sell Colborne as potentially the next Joe Thornton saying he had all the tools. I remeber toronto fans saying he was a great prospect to get in return for Kaberle which he basically was.
When we got him he had almost passed the project phase into a salvage phase. It looked like he was on his last chance but it looks like he is in the right situation and is still developing. His size, and hands don't come by everyday and so far he has been fantastic especially using that frame to win battles and protect the puck.
I wouldn't be shocked if he hit 50pts this year especially if he sticks with Monahan and Hudler

I don't think anyone is giving that impression. For what little we had to give up to get him, I think anything higher than a 3rd line winger is gravy.

I see him as a very lucky guy. Tons of opportunity to grow into a 2/3rd line player. In the right situation with a coach who is accepting nothing less than top effort. He has taken advantage of the opportunity which points to a solid character. He is growing into the type of guy who has a long NHL career.

Colborne had played 16 NHL games before coming to the Flames. Last year he made excellent progress through his rookie NHL season and has started this year following that same relatively steep upward trend.

I voted Top 6 winger but I would have voted Top 9 winger because I think other prospects could jump him in a couple of year.

I chose top 6 winger. When Joe moved to the wing, that's when his game really started to improve here. He's our best player at shielding the puck and winning board battles. He didn't seem to do much of that prior to arriving here. You can tell it's really something that the coaches are working on with him. Hartley said that Brodie has no idea how good he can be. I feel the same about Joe. I think in his prime he can be a 50+ pts player. Above all though, leave him with Monahan. Some players just have chemistry together and those 2 guys have it. I can see them being a strong duo for the Flames for a long time.

Could turn out to be Feasters best trade (Russell and Granlund/Wotherspoon were great too though). Really happy with his play and really happy with him being back on the wing. His size is a great asset in the corners and along the walls, I hope Colborne-Monahan-Hudler isn't broken up anytime soon.

I also went utility, which can be a double edged sword.
He can play different positions, but gets moved around so much be doesn't get comfortable in any position.
A jack of all, master of none. I don't think this is happening, but it can be a concern. Players like him, are a good problem/concern to have.

Sure, against an absolutely terrible road team. I think he might become a third line center.
