CBC sub- license Saturday night games and Playoffs from Rogers as part of the new deal.
Rogers will provide the production crew but will air on CBC.

It is nice to have a pair of Original Six games for HNIC. The bonus with Blackhawks-Blues game is that viewers can watch and listen to both teams' feeds. The home team feed is picked up by FX Canada.

I would guess the same reason why CBC lost the hockey song. Licensing. They probably weren't interested in playing the money. Especially for music that, quite frankly, has no historical significance.

Surely if it's not being used, it couldn't have cost that much?

Well, its better than what Rogers uses, certainly. But even if the cost was "not much", I would guess Rogers didn't see any need to pay for it.
