Stajan and Glencross have always been effective together and it seemed surprising to see them separated. I guess they just really wanted to have Colborne at centre which is a good idea as well but I like it better this way with Colborne on Monahan's wing.

They must have awarded the "Glencross goal" to Wideman, because that's what it says on the official scoresheet now.

4 goals from the blue line so far this season is nothing to sneeze at. On pace for... well, let's not get into that.

Interesting take on the fourth line situation. There was speculation in the Game Takes thread after the loss to Columbus as to whether Hartley was a guy who truly rolled 4 lines or preferred three lines with spot duty from the fourth.

I don't think it's coincidence that this game was the first time we had all 4 lines in the 12-18 minute range, given that the game was essentially over with 15 minutes to go. The minutes were down for Giordano and Brodie as well.

I think you'll see so many close games with this club over the course of the season that we will still see the fourth line get 6-8 minutes most nights.

Great write up but I'm going to disagree with the goat, I think it has to go to the oilers as they set precedent to what a bottom team should look like. The hurricanes are just following the oilers example. Colborne has been awesome, deserves Mr. Clutch.

One quick comment. You noted that the Flames went 60% in FO's, but then seemed to imply it wasn't significant because Carolina is so terrible right now. Face-offs, however, are one of the few areas they've actually excelled this season. They had the highest win percentage in the league going into last night. Even after only going 40% against the Flames they sit at 3rd in the league.

I enjoyed it till it was 3-0. Then I have to admit it got a little boring. Hurricanes not even putting up any opposition whatsoever. So I flicked around and the NFL game was boring, the college football games were meh. I turned the Flames game back on and it was 5-0 so I watched till the end to see if Monahan would get his hat trick.

To me the real positives of the game were guys like Monahan getting rolling offensively. They could just free wheel all game. I'm thinking the Caps game will be a lot more exciting and more challenging and this game was a good primer for that contest.

I think they need to keep the Hudler - Monahan - Colborne line. It worked out really well last night.

And it worked just like you'd imagine. Colborne digs it out, hudler makes the pass, Monahan finishes

Although the gaudreau/backlund/raymond line didn't produce, I do think that line has a chance to be good. I hope Hartley keeps the lines intact for a few games, to give them a chance. These lines as a whole make the most sense.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I like this team. Really like this team. They have been fun to watch. See lots of potential still as well. Unlike some other bottom feeder teams, we seem to have a d-Core that has solidified and reasonably good goaltending.

I think save percentage of our tenders has something to do with how the defence plays in front of them.

I think it is funny that people are complaining about the game last night. It is true that the Canes were terrible, but you cannot fault the Flames for that, and they did what they needed to do - didn't give them any reason to get life. If the game would have ended in a 2-1 SO win (or loss) I would have been quite upset. It was actually a very enjoyable game to be at - it was clear the Flames were not going to lose that game after they scored the first goal.

The contribution from the blueline been amazing...

Byron now picks up a 2nd assist on the Wideman goal.

Was at the game and can say, IMO, the only times Carolina had anything resembling momentum was the couple minutes here and there where the Flames stopped skating.

Once the Flames figured it out and started moving again it was men against boys.

Credit the coaches for that recognition.

Hats off to the Flames for beating on an inferior opponent but holy smokes it's been a long time since I've seen a team in the NHL look that bad. Just the way they played in their own end looked like an AHL team that just got inserted into the NHL. It's kind of a joke that the Hurricanes are going to back themselves into a franchise player as that looks like a team that has decided that they aren't going to let the Sabres get in their way of getting their replacement for Eric Staal.

If they skated a mile combined I'd be shocked. Watch the effort level in the Bouma goal in particular. Absolutely zero pride in that logo

Yeah, they definitely found one line that should stick for a while. Now they have to figure out the other lines. I like Bollig Bouma and Jooris on the 4th line. I didn't think the Gaudreau, Backlund and Raymond line was great last night but I would keep them together to see if they turn it up. Glencross Stajan and Bryon was solid as well.
