Default GAME 17 : Blue Bombers at STAMPEDERS

Saturday afternoon at 2pm is the Stampeders' last regular season home game this year. Calgary record is now 14 wins and 2 losses. The most recent 15 wins season by the CFL team was Montreal Alouettes in 2009. Edmonton Eskimos recorded the a league-record 16 wins in 1989. This is a meaningless game and the Stamps have nothing to gain other than keeping their players active before the West Final and having to tie the record for the most wins in a season. I am sure the coaching staff and the players would like to get the 16 wins but hoping not the expense of the starters.

Game Time : Saturday, November 1st @ 2:00pm at McMahon Stadium
Televised : TSN, ESPN3

OFFENSE :

QB Bo Levi Mitchell went 21/31 for 231 yards with 1 TD and he also rushed for 23 yards. Offense started off slow but played well in the 4th quarter last game vs Riders. RB Matt Walter started last game in place of Jon Cornish rushed for 69 yards and scored 2 TDs. SB Nik Lewis had his best game of the season and he caught 9 times for 98 yards. Newcomer WR Eric Rogers was very impressive in his debut as a Stampeders' receiver and caught 5 times for 72 yards.
WR Marquay McDaniel is back practicing with the team but he won't be available in tomorrow's game. Newcomer WR Kamar Jorden will play his first game tomorrow. It looks like RB Jon Cornish will be suiting up tomorrow. He is 23 yards away in 1,000 rushing yards this season and he's still leading by 128 yards in the CFL Rushing Title race. I am sure he'll play the first half then might give way to Matt Walter again sometime in the 2nd half.

DEFENSE :

Last game vs the Riders, defense gave QB Kerry Joseph lots of time to look for receivers but tighten up in the 4th quarter especially. Stamps was down by 27-15 before the 4th quarter before they shut down Riders' offense and ended up winning 40-27. HB Jamar Wall returned an interception 50 yards for a TD in the 4th quarter. DE Charleston Hughes is still in a cast and will not play tomorrow. He's hoping to be back next game or the Western Conference Final. DT Junior Turner who had an awesome game last week with 4 tackles, 1 QB sack and 1 knockdown will not play tomorrow due to a minor injury. DT/DE Freddie Bishop III will also not suit up tomorrow. Defense will be trying to stop Bombers RB Paris Cotton in rushing for over 100 yards for the third straight game.

SPECIAL TEAM :

Glenn Love earns the weekly CFL Special Team PLayer of the Week after his performance last game vs Riders. Love had a career high 4 special team tackles and helped the Stampeders' special team coverage team in limiting the Riders to an average 6.1 yards on 5 punt returns and 20 yards average on 6 kickoff return.

************************************************** ********
Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost the last 8 straight games this season. This is the second time the Stamps will play them this season. The first meeting was on October 18th and Stamps won the game 33-23.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

In before flameswin fan attendance opinions

First day of truly crappy weather day of the Stamps season (and the Calgary weather season, save the freak snow), Saturday afternoon, after a night when many people probably went out, in an nothing game vs a team not in the playoffs.

No injuries is all Stamps fans can ask.

Fuuuuuuuudge. Cornish just bonked his noggin on the turf and got up wobbly. Get him out dammit.

Meh, like the boys said you can't play not to get hurt. He had to get some game reps.

At least he'll have almost 3 weeks when we need him so hopefully he can be ready by then.

He was on 6 game IR last time so I think he missed like 6-7 games.

I would suggest getting BLM out of the game, its getting slippery out there. Don't need him blowing a knee or something.

He may call it a season though depending on severity...he is a really smart guy and wont screw with his future.

No kidding. How many times does the phrase 'ball security' have to be drilled into his head?

So, do you pull Bo Levi from the game and give Drew Tate some reps in the 2nd half (as the panel was just discussing?)

Huff says Cornish is dinged up and its not as serious as the first one, but he is undergoing concussion protocol.

Cornish is out on the sidelines, but is done for the game.

Cornish looks pretty chipper on the sidelines, so hopefully that's a good sign that's it's not too serious.
