Default Kronwall suspended for Game 7

NHL Player Safety @NHLPlayerSafety
Detroit's Niklas Kronwall has been suspended one game for charging Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov.

Wow, I can't believe they actually went through with it, thought it would be a fine and that's it.

Great to see if you hate head shots, he obviously led with his elbow/forearm. He deserved more than just a warning.

Not sure why, Ferland never had a hit comparable to that.

This hit actually makes me scratch my head on the Hamhuis non-call/no hearing hit on Bennett.

good. It's about time Kronwall sits a game. "Neither been fined nor suspended in his career" ... wow.

Hitting Bennett in the head is OK though.

This was more vicious than the Bennett one. Having the helmet fly off made it look pretty bad.

I agree with you. Because it's Canuck fans... That's why they'll complain.

If Kronwall got suspended, Palat should have for his hit as well.

That may be the best explanation of a suspension I've seen from the DPS.

I think they're different situations. Hamhuis didn't launch himself up into the hit. I think in Hamhuis' case, 5 mins + game misconduct would have been an appropriate call, but the ref dropped the ball and only handed out 2 mins.

Am I the only one that thinks the Hamhuis hit, while clearly less spectacular and impactful, was more of a targeted head shot than the Krnowall hit?

I'm impressed. I didn't think they were going to do anything. Nasty hit, good to see this guy finally get suspended.

They seem to be reinventing his hit on Sbisa in game 3 into an attempt to not only board their player, but mash his skull into paste and bathe in his blood.

As far as this suspension goes, the Hamhuis/Bennett hit is a non-issue in my mind. That was a bad hit, but not on par with this one. What I am looking at with this decision is things like not suspending Subban for the slash on Stone - even though that was obviously not a head hit - or Byfuglien's assault after a goal.

Just as dirty as the Biseka hit (or whatever his name is).

Just not as visually dramatic.

I think the NHL is probably pressured from a lot of people mocking their policy of not suspending anyone no matter how severe the hit was. Their reasoning was you can't suspend player because it is the playoff. Are the players going to be careful with their hit now?

Those replays were helpful. Definitely the right decision here when you combine the fact that he launched upward and the main point of contact was the head.

The person explaining the rationale in the video sounds eerily like Brian Burke.
