I know it's very likely he gets sent down but I really hope he doesn't. Especially after watching that game last night I'd much rather see him in the line up.

Happy birthday Sven Baertschi! If last night was any indication it shows we need scoring in the lineup so I hope Baertschi makes the team. If he doesn't I think he should read Hartley's comments on Jooris playing with passion and playing like it was his last game. It was easy to see Jooris excitement when he scored. Backlund now plays the game with more passion, playing like he is a leader on the team with a mission. Baertschi is looking great this preseason but maybe less passive and more passion. I am really hoping we see Monahan and Baertschi, Bennett and JG as the top two lines in the future.

To tell the truth, I'd almost written Baertschi off as top prospect. He's redeemed
himself with this camp and even if he gets sent down, he should be one of the
first to be recalled.
and not thanks to gilligans_off for ruining this page with his oversized picture.

Why though? Was it because of Burke's comment last year? Was it because that horrific coach Ward misused him almost all year in the AHL? If you look at his AHL season last year, the moment Sven got put back to his natural position, he began producing again. I know it's not the best excuse, but some players do struggle greatly when then get moved away from the position they've played their entire career.
I'll never understand why fans are so fickle when it comes to prospects. Sven has the exact same amount of points as Monahan did through the same number of NHL games. Monahan was sheltered (heavily) last season, as I'm sure Sven has been as well. By all accounts prior to Burke opening his mouth last year, all we had heard were glowing comments about how hardworking and talented Sven was. Then Burke makes one comment and a lot of fans - on CP and around the city, instantly discarded him in favour of putting Monahan up on a pedestal.
Look around the league - specifically at Detroit. Nyquist (at age 24), and Tatar (at age 23) took a long time to develop and are now being praised, as is Detroit, for developing into high-end players. It's no "surprise", there's no magic water in Detroit that made these kids turn out. Detroit invested a lengthy period of time building these two players in the AHL. Now go look at Sven's development path - it's all over the place. We mock Edmonton for not being able to develop players "the right way", but look at how the Flames have managed Sven. The kid has 24 points in 51 NHL a games as a 21 year old (now a 22 year old as of today), and we have people talking about him like he's a bust.
Jeepers.
If Sven spends the entire season in the AHL, I'd almost be happy. Give the kid a consistent environment, let him spend an entire season with one coach and one system and let him develop into the player he can be.

No, I made my opinion from watching him in Abbotsford. As a prospect he had fallen behind Granlund,
Wotherspoon, Ortio and Reinhart and that was just in Abbotsford. He couldn't win a puck battle against
AHL opposition and not only didn't win the battles but had the bad habit of turning his back leaving him
open to being driven into the boards. He seems to have fixed this problem and now only needs to get his
scoring touch back.
As for being misused by trying him out at RW, that was a good move as that would be where the big team
needs the most help. Too bad it didn't work.
as an afterthought, I can't wait for Detroit to miss the playoffs so people will shut up about the Wings and
how they do things. We aren't Detroit.

Sven would not have been a difference maker in that game.

management probably called him into the office and said "happy birthday kid, here's your bus ticket".
hopefully Treliving finds a way to make room for him and Jooris soon.

IMO he will be NHL ready at 24-25. He will be a late bloomer, but will be better than Backlund. Worth waiting for, unless a team is willing to pay for potential (highly unlikely).

Not going to predict the age, but I also think he'll be a late bloomer. And I also think he'll be better than Backlund.
But I also think he will demonstrate that on another team.

Baertschi is going to pull a Neiderreiter. A couple tough seasons trying to work out his game to be effective at the next level, bouncing between the team and the farm, then he'll break out in a big way when he finally figures it out.
I just hope we keep him long enough to see him bloom at the NHL level.

I see him the same way . I just hope he does not pull a neiderreiter and demand a trade.
