Icon42 Blues re-sign Schwartz (2 yrs, $2.37mil AAV)

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Jaden Schwartz's new two-year contract with STL pays him $2M in 1st year, $2.7M in 2nd year for AAV of (yup, you guessed it) $2.35M.

Damn, 56 points in 80 games, Edmonton would have gave him $42 million over 7 years.

No such thing as a bridge in Edmonton.

Nice contract for St. Louis.

Johansen's leverage just took a big hit.

The NFL used to go through this all the time until the rookie wage scale was put in place. Dominoes have to fall.

Schwartz and his camp probably would have liked to wait for Johansen to set the bar, but the season is nearly upon us. Unlike Johansen, Schwartz is on a contending team and he can't afford to have an off year because he skipped camp.

He also only had the ability to sign with the Blues thus limiting his leverage.

This is exactly what a bridge contract should look like.
