The Free Agent Newcomers
We signed a number in the off season.
Of the short number of pre-season games I've seen I've been impressed by a few.
Engelland. Looks like a solid defenseman with a big presence. I think he'll be a big upgrade over Butler.
Raymond. Speed and versatility. I think he'll fit in well throughout the line-up and on special teams. Good utility player.
On the fence with a few:
Hiller. Hard to tell so far. Hasn't really looked amazing, but also not terrible.
Bollig. Didn't really stand out doing much of anything. Almost looks like he doesn't know what his role on the team is yet.
And one not impressed with:
Setoguchi. Was puzzled by this signing. I thought his role would be a great opportunity to inject some youth in the line-up. We have a number of young players that I think could bring the same thing to he team. Secondary scoring and grit. Guys like Ferland, Reinhart ect.
Should be interesting to see what happens with the final cuts. I personally hope management stands behind their comments that the best players will be on the team and that the roster wouldn't be formed in July. Per above I think some of our younger players are ready for the NHL and the team would benefit more from them making the roster than guys like Setoguchi.
