Default Flames Jobs

First off, I have no clue where to put this. So sorry in advance if there actually is a spot for this more suitable.

I'll make this quick. But I don't live in Calgary, and it's time for me to move on in my career. Being a Flames fan and a designer you can all imagine what my dream job would be.

Just wondering if anyone on this vast forum has any contact or knows any contact within the Flames HR. I don't expect anyone to vouch for me, just something more personal than 'jobs@calgaryflames.com'. I've put emails out there before, but I have never seen anything posted for them or the affiliates in a very long time so they are likely archived.

Thanks in advance, and wish me luck people!

I can't help you but I wish you luck. Seriously.
At the least, you have been around here since 2007.

Thanks! It's an absolute hail mary, but there is no better reason to move across the country.

And I've definitely been lurking around here for a while. It's probably a tab that hasn't closed since 2007 too! (did we have tabbed browsing in 2007? )

Cashing a cheque with a Flames logo on it is never not great.

I hope you're looking at applying for jersey design.

I had an interview with the Flames in 2003 for a marketing job, no luck and good thing cause I would have been out of work a year or so later due to the lock out. It goes without saying they have limited job openings and once people get in they don't leave. I would suggest taking your résumé down there directly and try to talk to someone, I always thought working for the Flames foundation would be a cool job. I have my rejection letter from them saved as a souvenir! Good luck.

Who would have ever thought being rejected from a dream job would have an upside, but you definitely would have been up the creek

And I would be at their door everyday, but I love in Ontario. It's going to be years and a lot of luck to find a spot, because you're right... why would you ever leave?

I tried to get a job two or three years ago, spoke with a few guys but nothing ever came of it. We have full time techs (broadcast/IT) here in van and I figured Calgary would be the same but I guess they rely on part timers. We support games, Web, streaming etc. I've bugged Calgary a few times about their poor support. Some day I suppose...

Huh, well that's disappointing. It's kinda a worry of mine as well, as a lot of things are sourced to local firms (ie. promotions and jersey design).

A woman I work with was a designer for the Flames. Crazy amounts of work with even crazier deadlines. I didn't ask her what the pay was like. She's not a hockey fan so she didn't have that motivation to keep her going.

Too bad Ken King and his copy of MS Paint filled that role years ago

I know the Flames use a combination of in-house and contract designers. The guy I know does a bit of work for them and a lot of work for the Stampeders. He's a really talented designer.

http://www.design.ca/

They have limited in-house jobs available and I've heard they pay lower than many places because it's the Flames and people want to work for them. You might have better luck getting a job as a design contractor.

Put together a killer portfolio website and get it in front of the Communications manager.

Let's just say they aren't in the business of paying people lots of money who aren't hockey players. As a guy who entered into negotiations to work there, the money was substantially less than I was making. The thought being, that there's only one Calgary Flames hockey club. If you want to work for them, it's not going to make you rich. If you want to make lots of money, be a hockey player, or work in a different industry. Yes I know money is not the primary passion of everyone.

Best to seek advice from George Constanza. He made it look glamorous with the Yankees.

With the turnaround on some of the promotions I've seen, I figured that place would be a mad-house at times. Which I love . But it really helps if you're jacked about what they're asking you to do. If you really don't care about the player trade they want you to feature... that's gotta get old fast.

Thank you, I was looking for that forever last night. I thought I saw some reference to the designers that worked on the 3rd jersey, but couldn't find a thing.

Working outside the Flames but carrying a load of their contracts would be incredible, I might have to annoy your buddy for the next decade

I feared that may be the case. I would personally take a cut to achieve the life-dream, but it definitely impacts the 'I'll retire a Flame' option if it really is that limited.

I got hired as a Flames graphic designer but left after being disappointed with the department structure. Maybe its changed since.

How long ago was that? And anything specific that was bothering you?

Considering I'd be moving across the country for this, I'd love to know!

Side-note: Until now, I honestly thought you were involved in the Flames.tv videos. Your stuff is so well done and you have a gigantic archive of everything. Now I'm even MORE impressed!
