Default Gay Teen's family has aggressive & violent reaction, to his coming out

This is horrifying. The family sticks to their fictitious sky pixie depictions, chastising and outcasting their 20 year old son.

Religion sickens me.

Religious or not, this type of reaction would still be pretty common amongst many people. My Dad is the furthest thing from religious, yet as close to redneck as there is, his initail reaction, I'm sure would not be pleasant. Still I'm a skeptic of every online video and don't believe that this is true. And judging from the kids voice, they should have seen this coming...

Stuff like this always bums me out. It is 2014, why is this still an issue?

The part that seems unbelievable is that there are no guns involved and it is shot in the USA.

I spend an inordinate amount of time on the internet and I've seen a lot of fake stuff.

This does not seem fake in any way, shape, or form.

just absolutely disgusting and heart wrenching. Poor kid.. I hope he manages to see that there are people who will love him and support him through this. Sure the $19K raised to help him is a nice gesture, but everyone needs and deserves to be loved.

I just hope he doesnt think he is alone and downward spirals cause he feels he has no more family.

Family is the most important thing in the world. And to have that family suddenly turn on you with violence and not one of them stands by your side? ... i couldnt imagine.

My family isn't overly religious either (my mom pretends to be but doesn't actually care) but they are as homophobic and backwards as can be. Stupid Polish school system from their time.

Pretty embarrassing to hear them talk about homosexuality or evolution or anything really...

The family's reaction is obviously ridiculous. However, I also think that recording a moment like this is an additional sad statement on what our society has become. It's not exactly recording your family opening Christmas presents.

It could easily have just been to protect himself.

He had no choice, he needed to protect himself. He knew his familly was homophobic and not accepting of the way god made him.

I can't imagine what the kid is going through being outed by your familly for something that is not wrong or in his control.

How is, our modern society has been inexpensively tooled with the application of due diligence, a sad indictment?

I was implying the desire for everyone to record themselves doing everything. In my mind this is a pretty private moment that's not something that should be shared.

I do agree with the "protect himself" angle though. That's a pretty just reason to film it.

If it were an unexpected potentially detrimental & intimate occasion, that the teen recorded, I'd agree.

But, the teen is aware of the family's history & prejudices.

Sharing the video, and then the social media leverage, is precedent setting. This scenario wasn't a matter of if, but when.

IMO, sad for the backwards bible belt culture. While a sad scenario for the young man to find himself in, I don't feel he did anything wrong.

With that said, what other due course is available to him?
Share the video with law enforcement, for the assault charge?
