This rating isn't based on skill or anything, just how much you like that player for whatever reason. I'll average out the results later to see who we like

I've always found this 1-10 rating of things that are subjective to be quite funny. Especially since everything between 1-6 is considered below average and 7 is defined as average by most.

Really?

5 should really be average, especially in a 1-10 ratings system. But I'd say 6 is the more general benchmark for average, not 7. How can a 7 in a 10 rating system be the middle ground?

Well that's what's so funny about it.

By definition, 5 should be average. But people usually define either 6 or 7 as average which skews the whole system. Add on top of it this strange misunderstanding a lot of people have of the English language where we say average while meaning not very good. For example I've heard people call the Flames "a pretty average team" when they mean "pretty terrible". So in this example, say the Flames are defined as "average" and 6 is the average, then there will be a lot of teams given a 7 to 10 rating.

This phenomenon is pretty evident in the OP where almost every player is ranked between 7 and 10. And actually 10 is always reserved for an exceptional case, so really these ranking systems usually end up being a choice between ranking someone a 7, 8 or 9.
