Default ongoing AMP Radio is doing something stupid thread

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...ings-1.2730364

Seems like a desperation move from a station that is likely burning through money figuratively as well as literally. That said, I'd probably check out the half a song format if not for the fact that twice as much mediocre music is t actually better.

What a stupid move!

I don't want to hear AMP's version of the song. I want to hear THE SONG.

What a bunch of morons.

Jann Arden is going off about this on twitter in a kind of amusing fashion.

Desperate move to win back the listeners who left when they burnt the $5k? I think it's dumb, but I can't stand that station anyway.

I'd say it's a desperate move to win listeners they've never had, as was the money-burning stunt.

I don't believe they've ever come close to Virgin or Lite 96/Kiss in the ratings since they changed to the Amp format. This is just another attempt to set themselves apart from the other stations playing the same disposable pop crap.

The only thing AMP had going for it was that it was the most EDM-Friendly station during the recent rise of EDM into the mainstream but now that everyone else has caught on, they literally play the same stuff as every other pop station.

I'll give them credit for the being the first big radio station in Calgary (that I know of at least) to have an hour of dance format mixing/dj-ing which was ballsy.

Twice the music? Doesn't really mean much when you are cutting the songs in half. One of the other crappy stations that competes with them should cram a bunch of song into a minute and win the songs per hour war.

"We play 50,000 songs per hour."

Artists that spent weeks writing that 4 minute song.

Looking at the music Amp plays, I don't think artists like Calvin Harris or Katy Perry are going to be too fired up about Amp taking liberties with their artistic integrity. Remixes and mash-ups have been a part of pop music for quite a while now.

The worst thing AMP ever did was become AMP, leavin FUEL in the dust. Such a good station.

Sadly, FUEL was a lot like the original Winnipeg Jets. Far more people claim to have cared about the station after it was gone than did when it was on the air.

I`ve only started listening to Amp over the last month. In my opinion, they provide a better mix of music over Virgin and Kool. Most pop music doesn`t deserve 4 minutes of airplay anyways. When I search for new music on the internet I generally only give a song about one minute to grab my attention and if it sounds like it has potential I`ll give it a second minute. I don`t need to be bombarded with the same repetitive lyrics and tune for 4 minutes.

I think most of us are too old to appreciate this move. I went on a roadtrip recently with my 20 year old brother, and he drove me crazy, because not only did he just listen to garbage music, but he wouldn't make it through half a song before moving to the next song. Just didn't have the ability to be interested in a song for the full length. Maybe all the kids are like that these days, and that's who they're marketing to.

Maybe. I listened to it every day it was on air. It didn't seem to get much of a fair shake, but I'm not sure of the details of the change. maybe they got bought out rather than "failing".

Fuel had some crossover with X and CJAY, but CJAY is so generic and X has fallen into the trap of playing their most popular songs waaaay too much.

I miss Fuel.

I'll pass on your kind words about FUEL to their old Programming Director/night DJ Matt.

RIP FUEL died too soon lest we forget.
