Who has large room rentals with catering?
Hi, was wondering if someone on here could help us out. We are trying to find conference hall, business centre or golf course to rent out a room for the max of 70 people in November for a few days. It just has to have a screen for the projector, and tables and chairs. If they offer in house catering great, if not, they have to allow for it. We need the room all day for 3 days, so that way we dont have to tear down our gear everyday.
I've called literally every golf course, lots of business halls and the calgary legion and no luck. Im getting a bit frustrated because i cant believe its this difficult just to find a place and get some quotes.
The boss is a cheapskate, so renting out any room in the downtown core or any hotel is not even a consideration. Hence why he wants to look at golf courses.
If you have any recommendations please let me know.

Too bad about no downtown - I use the Metropolitan Centre all the time for my company.
Other option is look at restaurants? Some have large rooms or can rent out the whole building for you. I remember going to an event at Teatro once.

Community Hall. And hire your own caterer. You can rent a screen and projector too. A golf course will likely not have those supplies or if they do, you'll have to rent them too. Most Calgary golf courses have closed up shop by November, so that's probably why you're not having a lot of luck wiht them.
Teatro is like a $15,000 minimum so I doubt that fits the budget if you can't find anything else downtown that does.

Ha the Metro Centre was the first place i wanted to suggest but at $2000/day for the room rental, the cheapass boss would have a heart attack. I told him, not to be so picky if youre gonna be such a cheapass.
I will look at restaurants, just not sure which ones have a room large enough to fit 70 people with a screen for the projector.

Most hotels have these facilities. Deerfoot inn and casino is one example. Many others have rooms for this very thing.

Don't a lot of the hotels offer these services since they probably do a lot of weddings and such. Off the top of my head I can think of Coast Plaza, Glenmore Inn, Carriage House. I think a lot of the hotels in the NE or near the airport must have conference capabilities.
Edit: Oops, missed the part of no hotels. sorry.

We had the Uncle's party at Willow Park GC, we didn't have 70, but I think there would be room for that many. I think his birthday is near the end of October, but that was last year and I really can't remember. You will already be running into Christmas Parties come Mid November so prices and availability will be an issue.

I would love to contact more hotels but the boss is too cheap to pay for them. Even though IMO, just save me the hassle and just book in with one of these hotels, good lord. Its not like i dont have other stuff i gotta do in my day.

Sheraton Four Points by the Airport is a good spot. Good food options too.

Left them a message thanks.
Hope I can find something. But theres only so much you can do when you dont have much to work with but yet a 4 star setting is expected.

This probably isn't the cheapest option but what about the facilities at the Grandstand at Stampede Park? The Lazy S, Clubhouse Restaurant or Rotary House would be sufficient for your needs. There is also that Wild West Event Centre west of the city beside Callaway Park.

The zoo has a meeting room that sounds about right for that. I think it's called the safari lodge. Not sure how it is for costs.

I was just at a memorial service at the Carriage House Inn south on Macleod Trail.
The room we were in would accommodate your group quite nicely and they catered as well. I have no idea about the cost though.
Spruce Meadows has facilities for the size of your group as well and they also offer catering.
I presume you have tried Priddis Greens golf course already?

There is also the Southern Alberta Pioneers building in the Parkhill/Stanley Park area. I've contacted them before regarding renting their building. It is a nice place but the organization does make it somewhat difficult to rent the building (they are pretty anal and in a sense not very inviting.)

Oh. I forgot about one other suggestion - the Danish Canadian Club.

I'm an events DJ, and have done a tonne of shows at community halls, ranging from birthday parties, anniversaries, wedding receptions and corporate events/parties. I'd have to say one of the better Halls to work in, and with, has been Winston Heights. They're pretty well priced, and very accommodating. If you rent the Main Hall, (can handle far more than 70) you also get use of the bar area, which is great if you want to provide cold drinks, and coffee throughout the day, not just with meals.
I'd suggest checking them out, Pretty sure they can provide AV equipment as well. I'd guess for the 3 days, if available, would be around $1000. Then hire caterers.
