[News] Tousignant Is A Pest
Haven't seen him play, but like his attitude and what he could bring.
Some good quotes in the article
Quote:
I wanted to see what’s out there,” says Tousignant. “One of my idols is Theoren Fleury. He played on the edge. So when Calgary came up with (an offer), I was really happy about that.”
|
Quote:
“I’ll jump in front of Zdeno Chara’s slapshot headfirst if I have to,” he says. “I want to do everything for this team and make my dream happen, make it come true, play in the NHL one day.”
|
Quote:
Previously suspended in the AHL and ECHL, Tousignant understands the need to go to that line — and the tendency to stray over it occasionally.
More than once, he’s regretted his on-ice antics.
“If I cross it, sometimes coaches or even teammates don’t like it,” he says. “I’ve been working on that since I was 20 years old. Now I’m getting more and more comfortable with that line.”

He sounds annoying as hell...

Again, the Flames most likely won't be competing for a playoff spot so having a guy like this on the team couldn't hurt too much. He'll make other teams hate playing against us and could throw players off their games or even draw a lot of penalties. I think successful teams need a pest and I'd love for the Flames to have one, he seems like he's willing to do what it takes so why not give him a shot. Let's see what he has to offer against some NHL players and go from there.

I don't mind this guy stirring #### in Adirondack, but not in Calgary. We already have McGrattan, Bollig and Engelland for toughness and fighting, and if at any point the Flames think that they need even more of that, I hope they promote Ferland or Wolf.

I wish him all the best, and I hope he succeeds in his dream of playing in the NHL.
Somewhere else.
There are already WAAAY to many deserving players in the system who are going to be riding the bus across upstate New York all season.

He might fit in with the Canucks! We have enought grit and if I want an agitator I want one that can back up his words.

I actually think he's got a great attitude. I hope he plays well enough to warrant an NHL contract one day, kid seems really invested in the game.

An agitator who backs up his words and fights is a goon. A real agitator is someone who throws the other team off their game and hurts them on the scoreboard. As long as he isn't crossing the line and turning into a Cooke then I'm ok with it. Ott is the kind of player that comes to mind here or a Marchand kind of player. If he can put up some points and drive the other team crazy and not have to fight then it'll probably lead to more PP's for us.

He has an AHL contract. Could be a good enforcer to look after Jonny Hockey in Glens Falls this year.

I totally agree. I think we've been missing a pest in this roster since Nemo left. McGrattan, Bollig and Engelland like others was saying we have are not a pest, they are a fighter. Sometimes you need toughness and at the same time you need someone to annoy the other team. I am not talking about a player like Burrows, Cooke or other dirty players who'll try to injure a player and back away. I don't think he will make the team at the beginning of the season but I can see the Flames calling him up sometime in this season.

I've said that over the last few years that this team has had a stunning shortage of jerks at least on the ice.
This team has gone the other way in that they're adding the nuclear options and the toughness but they still need a complete $$$hole in the lineup.

I always hated when the Heat played the Admirals just because he's that big of an a-hole, so I'm glad he's on our side this year.
I love pests in hockey. They add to the entertainment value and help create animosity between players, teams, and ultimately fans. Who didn't hate Lapierre when he was on the Canucks. He was a piece of crap. Burrows still is.
Now I'm not sure if Toussignant is a diver or not (I hope not), but I didn't notice anything like that in the AHL. But he is a prick.

I don't think you should consider him an enforcer, agitator yes.
Video evidence would show he does not scare anyone with his gloves off.

A good agitator will fight actually.
However, he won't fight people who don't mean anything. i.e If he can make another teams best player get so annoyed they want to square off, then he's won by all means. Him sitting for 5 minutes, means nothing; however, a star player sitting for 5 minutes does hurt.
I think Calgary's been missing a real agitator for a while now. I like the guys who play on the edge, because they change the dynamic of the game. As long, as you said, he's not Cooke-ing anyone; I'd be more than happy to have this guy in the AHL.
