Just a heads up for anyone on bell and getting free Setanta (1414) until September 13th.
The All-Ireland hurling final will be screened at 6pm MT on Tuesday. If you like hockey you've gotta check this sport out. Forget soccer or Rugby, this is Irelands life or death sport and by far no 1 spectator sport.
Note the tv listing is wrong that lists the senior game at 8pm. It is the 6pm game you want to see. 8pm is the kids.

In 2007, Forbes magazine described the media attention and population multiplication of Thurles town ahead of one of the game's annual provincial hurling finals as being "the rough equivalent of 30 million Americans watching a regional lacrosse game."[1] American soldiers have also expressed their love of the game's warrior ethos.

IIRC, the commercials said the free preview went to the 13th.
I'm liking Setanta, but I am not sure about paying $15 a month for a channel with sports I like, but am not passionate about. And I certainly will not be buying so long as Shaw chooses to make excuses for not offering the channel in HD.
I recall way back when, Skydome brought it some teams from Ireland and they had a game of Hurling, as well as Gaelic Football, both on one weekend and games were on TSN. On the old style astroturf no less.
Only the Irish could come up with something so insane and chaotic. I've never seen an actual game, but it strikes me as being quite a lot like Aussie rules football, which I could never get into due to the mad scramble it seemed to turn into. Maybe the enhanced violence will tip the scales.
There is actually a variant of Gaelic Football that mixes Aussie Rules Football. Those Irish are totally F'ed in the head based on what I just watched. That being said, don't ever change!

Surprisingly enough there is very little to zero violence in the sport and what you saw there was basically handbags, gamesmanship and territory marking. The disciplinary process is severe.
Great game though, Kilkenny well worth the win, defence was brillant.
Poor old referee even got split open. Meh .... a memento of his big day.
Crazy. The wife and I randomly stumbled onto it today without seeing this thread or the free Setanta preview. Hell I've never even checked out that area of my tv guide.
That said, we were hooked. What a freakin sport. So badass.
I couldn't believe how many people were in the stands. Anybody want to grab some baseball bats and get a game of pickup going?
Being shown this year on Sportsnet World. Semi finals currently on. 1730 ET start each week I think. Hurling semifinals on for the next 2 weeks followed by the Gaelic Football semis.
