Default 2013-2014 NBA season thread

Didn't see one so I figured I might as well start it again this year. Beat the Heat. That is all.

Good to see Rose back out there tonight, 13 points in 20 plus minutes, looking good as well, and like Thibs said he knew Rose was back when Rose got mad when Thibs took him out in the 3rd quarter.

First Raptors pre-season game is tonight @ Boston, and on NBA Canada.

For all the very bad rep pro athletes do get this a feel good story about Ottto Porter and his act of kindness.

Quote:
What we do when we assume no one is paying attention demonstrates our true character.

On Friday, during a very stressful week for Washington, I looked to escape the madness for 30 minutes on what was a warm fall afternoon. I was reading The Post and eating a quick lunch at a table outside a local sandwich shop while a disheveled homeless man sat nearby, persistently and unsuccessfully asking anyone who walked by if he or she could “spare a sandwich.”

After about 25 minutes, Otto Porter Jr., the Georgetown basketball star and the Washington Wizards’ newest first-round draft pick, drove up, hopped out of his car and entered the shop. Mr. Porter soon exited with his sandwich and drink — but also with a sandwich, a bag of chips and a drink for the homeless man. Mr. Porter then sat down next to the man, and they both enjoyed their sandwiches while making small talk.

It was a wonderful thing to watch. This pure act of kindness, when no one was paying any attention, demonstrated true character and a genuine concern for someone in need. Mr. Porter, kudos to you. You are a gentleman and a true role model for fans of all ages.

This is funny, but really isn't anything new. As we already know he "loves taking hits". Right?

Quote:
SECOND THING Michael Beasley is pretty hard on himself sometimes. Beasley received his first minutes of playing time and he was great. He scored nine points in his first five minutes of action and was diving on the floor and doing things coaches generally like to see out of players trying to make a roster. Of course, Beasley also did something a little odd after one offensive play. Upset with himself over a mistake, Beasley started punching himself in the head while running back on defense. He punched himself so hard that he needed treatment after the game from the Heat's trainer. Steel compresses (like the ones cut doctors use in boxing) were applied to Beasley's brow in the locker room.

Two Wichita State Shockers on opening night rosters this year.

Tourre Murry made the Knicks and Gal Mekel is going to see a lot of PT in Dallas at point guard.

I might actually pay attention some this year!

Michael-Carter Williams with one of the best debuts in NBA history. How about 22 points, 12 assists, 9 steals and 7 rebounds? A near quad-double! And only one turnover to boot. Sixers win? I guess the Heat are in on the Wiggins chase too.

NY manhandled by San Antonio today. Spurs out rebound the Knicks 51 to 33.

Bargiani starts at center and puts up 16 points on 5-10 shooting. However his 1 rebound in 26 minutes ... lol .... yeah, that's going to go over well in NY.

Man, I really hope it's nothing that serious. I love watching him play.

I know the Blazers aren't going to keep up this pace, but it sure is fun watching them play good basketball again.

I gotta imagine Derrick Rose's career is pretty much over now. Or if its not he's going to be in that Greg Oden category of consistent injury waiting to happen. Really sad that such a talented player isn't going to ever get the chance to live up to his potential.

For the Bulls it puts them in a really interesting spot. They're still on the hook for Rose's contract for several more years, so if the contract is insured they'll be alright but if not that could be trouble. And with Rose's future in serious doubt, if I was running things I'd go all in for a tank this year, trade every asset you can. An Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker or Marcus Smart can help transition into a new era very quickly.

Per sources, Derrick Rose tore his right meniscus and will need surgery.

Bulls make it official. Release says medial meniscus tear and indefinite absence. Source said he's returning to Chicago for surgery.

Just came back from NY and saw the Pacers vs Knicks game on Nov. 20. What a game, the Knicks should have won it and it would have been a shock, instead they lost in OT.

Went to two NCAA games at the Barclay center, great venue for sports and concert. We should tear down the Saddledome and rebuild it to something like that. The NCAA games were great including the No. 1 ranked Michigan State.

How pathetic the Nets are playing. How could they be the bottom feeder at this point even with all the injuries? I guess that's what happened when you hire a coach who played ball with the same group of players not 6 months ago. Hiring like this rarely works out if ever.
