Default Electricity rates + admin fees increase

Does anyone have a floating rate? I'll have to check mine but I think I'm locked in at 8 cents.

Enmax just dropped their fixed rate a couple days ago. It's been 8.9 for awhile now and the site is showing that the fixed rate is 8.49.

Current floating rate for signup before June 2012 is 7.0838 and after June 2012 is $5.853.

Curious how much the jump is if Enmax is actually dropping the fixed rate. I've never seen that before.

Enmax appears to have started a new program as well called "Choose Free" which is a five year term for fixed electricity at 8.4 cents with either fixed or floating NG plus it includes 11,779 kwh or one year (whichever is less) of free electricity. It does have a termination fee whereas EasyMax does not. Seems like a good deal for anyone not planning on moving or terminating during the five years.

Should we be locking into fixed rates then, instead of staying with the floating rates?

Im paying 8c a KWH, so 12MWh is roughly $1,000. Sounds a bit too good to be true. I'm only getting, what $62, EasyDollars, or whatever a year from EasyMax, this is nearly triple that.

You get 1 year free not necessarily $1000 Do you use a MWH per month? I know I use about 2/3rds max.

The other part is the gas rate. I will have to check my bill but the floating gas rate is the regulated rate plus 99 cents. Do we currently pay the floating rate or the floating rate plus.

Also the lifetime Value of this contract is probably 250 per month times 60 months so 15k. They are offering you a 1k discount max and more like $700

With easy max you get $100 per year so $500 over the term, can cancel at anytime.

How do the Admin fees compare. the new plan is 7.10 what's the current plan. Also if you are locked in at .08 you give up 1\2 a cent until your current term is up.

Floating gas rate should be the same at +99cents although I think there are some older customers who have +49 cents. Admin fees are the same at $7.10

I always thought floating was te way to go if you can absorb the fluctuations.

Gas is way less volatile than electricity. IMO fixed electricity and floating gas is the way to go.

There were extreme demands reported in Jan, Feb and March which was the reason for the rate hike during that time. Fixed electrical and floating gas for sure.

Also, it's time to get energy conscious and try to consume less. The drop in demand will drop the price easy! Time for sait to start teaching the art of candle making.

This message now appears on the Enmax Website:

Quote:
MAY 2014 UPDATE

This month, transmission line maintenance at generation plants will result in decreased electricity supply.

Even though the work is only supposed to last about 12 days, the plants' combined output is expected to be cut by almost 50 per cent. This supply shortage will cause Alberta's Regulated Rate Option (RRO) prices to rise and you may see a higher charge for May electricity on your bill. If you are currently on the EasyMax® RRO Matched rate for electricity, and would like to avoid this kind of volatility, you can log in to Your Account and switch to the fixed rate option*.
They are currently showing the variable rate as $5.853 for after 06/12 signups and $7.0838 for pre 06/12 signups.

We locked at 8.49... Year over year this would be a savings?
