Flames prospects NHLE chart
I decided to make this. It didn't end up quite as illustrative as I hoped it would, but still might be of interest to those of you who like advanced stats. It fits in nicely with the prospect ranking polls.
Y-axis: NHL-equivalent scoring
X-axis: Year zero is year of first draft eligibility.
Spoilered for size.
All skaters:
Forwards:
Defensemen:
Players not listed:
Gillies (goalie)
McDonald (goalie)
Ortio (goalie)
Rafikov (no conversion factor)
Olas Mattson is there but I only have one point for him (couldn't find a conversion factor for the other years), so there isn't a line. He's right near 10 points for his draft year.

Reason: added charts for just fowards and defensemen

I can't tell who's who on my phone...is Gaudreau one skyrocketing one?

That chart's unreadable. Maybe split it up into 3 or 4 charts, or just put the figures in a data table/spreadsheet.
I appreciate the effort though.

I think it would work best as a 3D table. That way, you can better distinguish one player's line from the other. But others are right; it needs to be broken into a few separate charts to be readable. I recommend breaking it into four based on draft-years.

Just spent 10 mins finding guys I have interest in. Bit of a cluster going on, but interesting data nonetheless, appreciate it. NHLE is one of those fascinating stats to compare in the future vs actual performance. It is also makes it, like, really f###ing hard to temper expectations for Johnny.

First of all, thanks for the effort…and it's unreadable.
Secondly, a couple of things were not lost on me. Bill Arnold has the second highest current NHLE of anyone on that list. Sure playing with Gaudreau helps, but it's not like he's a slouch either.
Also, it's hard to see, but Kulak's progression is really good and very steady. Right now he's translating to 20+ points in the NHL. Not bad for such a young guy. Hope he keeps developing that big shot to become a PP threat for us. It's possible you see him in the NHL in another year.

Great job. This is not unreadable--it's detailed and analytical. It is important to have all prospects together for comparison even if it makes the data less-immediately digestible. I like.

This is an interesting visualization challenge. Is there any way to share the spreadsheet so we can try different approaches?

I think what would be in the legend to have it ranked from high to low with current NHL E rather than alphabatically. If you include the current NHL E number as well it will make it easire to find.
The top as I see in the graph are:
Gaudreau
Arnold
Pourier
Grandlund
Reinhart
Agostino
Baertchi

Maybe try to do one graph per draft year or something. You need that split into like 5 graphs.

It most certainly does not mean "pretty much nothing". NHLE is an aggregate. It is partially useful, but not unproblematic. So long as one understands that it includes a sizeable standard deviation that hampers its historical accuracy, it at minimum provides a variable for attempting to assess prospect development across a range of different hockey leagues, and in terms of their respective age.

I agree with whoever said it's good the way it is.
You can make additional charts to break down into smaller groups but you have you have to have them all together too.
Baertschi's up and then down stands out, Arnold's presence.
Good stuff
