Oilers trade Gagner to Tampa for Purcell. Tampa flips Gagner to Coyotes for a 6th

...just when you think Edmonton has actual depth down the middle, they go ahead and do this. A 1-2-3 of RNH, Draisaitl, Gagner and Gordon would have been a good mix. Now? They have Draisaitl, RNH and Gordon and nothing.

...wait what? Why wouldn't they just buy out Purcell? It costs Tampa more money to buyout Gagner than it would have Purcell.

don't really get this from Tampas point of view. Stamkos, Filppula and Johnson are all ahead of Gagner on the depth chart, plus Killorn and Drouin can play center too and they have Namestnikov and Paquette pushing for an NHL job. Bit of a head scratcher.

Damn, they traded Gagner for a bigger and more productive forward on a slightly cheaper contract? Pretty good move for the oilers but they are putting a lot of pressure on Draisaitl in his rookie year by taking a centre out of their already piss poor centre depth.
