Flames very interested in UFA Tom Gilbert
Dustin Nielson @nielsonTSN1260
Flames are apparently very interested in Tom Gilbert. Not sure if they are front runner but are certainly in the mix.

Why not? 30 year old right shooting D and he's had a few years in the wilderness to lose the Oiler stink.

Big. RH D-man. I don't see why not.
The only way it wouldn't make sense would be if we were purposely tanking for McDavid... But It doesn't look like we are.
EDIT: he is a former oiler.... Hope that stank has been washed out.

31 year old who had 28 points in 73 games with the Panthers last season.
Decent size, RH. Serviceable. Then you realize this is the Tom Gilbert that played for the Oilers and then this:

I think Nielson must have just misspelled "Dmitri Kulikov".
It's a common mistake.

Some players have managed to shake the Grease Stains off of their uniforms. Glencross and Smid come to mind...

He's mobile and certainly has some offensive prowess, but is a career -50 and doesn't play very physical.
I'd pass.

I don't think Gilbert would be bad at all, but I'd go after Mitchell first. We do need more bodies on defense.

I'm neither for or against this potential signing, but I have this recollection that Gilbert was a pylon for the Oilers and was either too good to bring back to their team or he was traded because he was in fact so no good that the no good Oilers let him go.

Unless he has an Oilers tattoo, I'm A-Ok with signing (good) ex-Oilers

Played for the oil and the Panthers and is only -50?
Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Meh why not? Just a stop gap until some of the younger D can develop, move up and take on bigger roles.
Good skater, decent size, right hand shot and can play some minutes.

He's better than Butler. Just depends on price and term.
