I know he's old and stuff, but a shot blocking tandem of Gio/Volchenkov will give the goalie a certain amount of nap time during games.

More Nonis stupidity. Comp bought out Komisarek and Grabovski instead of Liles, instead of buying out Liles trades him for bigger contract, only to buyout that contract?

This year will be his last.

Would probably take Gleason or Volchenkov on a 1 year deal for cheap. Decent bottom pairing veterans for a re-building team.

I'd take either Gleason or Volchenkov over Tom friggin Gilbert.

Was just about to post the same thing. They've got over $1 million this year tied between this buyout and retained salary. Next year its over $2 million. They've got 6 guys with cap hits over $4M signed for at least the next four years. Just an awful job.

I like Tim Gleason. Don't think Calgary necessarily needs him, but I think he'll do well where ever he ends up signing

Volchenkov would replace Butler's shot blocking.

Interesting and true point from Miller:

Gord Miller ‏@GMillerTSN 10m
Every year at this time, defensive defencemen get bought out, and then on July 1st, teams shell out huge $ for other defensive defencemen.

You'd think that teams would just say here take him to any of the other 29 teams. It'll be cheaper than signing him or a comparable guy.

Weren't Leafs fans praising Gleason's greatness after they brought him in last year? Boy did that change quickly. I can't believe he was dealt for Jack Johnson at one point.

Tim Gleason is actually a pretty good defenceman.

he would help a lot of teams. I would take him on Calgary for sure.

Leafs fans aren't that happy with this move.

Gleason was serviceable for them, and buying out Gleason actually costs more than buying out Liles would have cost.

Nonis is struggling with the pressure in Toronto.

He's toast now. These rugged defensive defenseman tend to age quickly.

To be fair at one point Tim Gleason was a pretty good defenseman... unfortunately for Leafs fans that point is not now. He's pretty poor now.

Nice to see there will be a lot of options for defensemen tomorrow.

I thought Nonis did a fine job in Vancouver but he's been awful since taking over from Burke. Its like they don't even have a plan anymore and are just making reactionary moves.

Thought this quote was funny from a Leaf fan, when talking about Gleason being bought out.

"I'm not sure what the Leafs need to add this offseason, but I'm pretty sure dead cap space isn't it."

No doubt Toronto is a poorly run team.
