I think they loved before they saw him play much and then he was forced to play way above his ability and sucked and they blamed him for a lot of problems.

Polak gives them what they need a responsible defenseman that can play in their top 4.

Gunnarsson with his soft, erratic play was exacty what they didn't need.

Seems like a great fit for the Leafs.

How?

The Leafs blueline struggles with possession and Polak is one of the worst Blues possession players.

His ice-time has been decreasing steadily for the past 5 seasons.

He's not a top 4 anymore - at least not if you have a good top 4,

Gunnarsson isn't soft. He doesn't lay many big hits, but he was solid defensively. And when he played with Phaneuf they were pretty decent most of the time. Phaneuf without Gunnar sucked big time.

Polak is a rough and tumble guy who can play a lot of minutes, and would be an ideal addition on the Flames smallish blueline.

Gunnarsson is going to blossom in St.Louis just like Steen did. Leafs are stupid. Gunnar is a better player but neither of them should be playing top pair.
