Icon48 2014/15 Cap set at 69 Million

CapGeek ‏@capgeek 3m
Sources say the upper limit has been set at $69M.

Spector's Hockey ‏@SpectorsHockey 36s
Though only $2 million below the projected $71 million, a $69 million cap will hurt clubs already close to the cap ceiling. #NHLSalaryCap

Aaron Ward ‏@aaronward_nhl 31s
Agreement between NHL and NHLPA is that the salary cap upper limit will be set at $69M #TSN

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 27s
Salary cap for 2014-2015. Cap is at $69. Lower Limit is $51 million.

Some teams are in danger. Namely Boston, Chicago, Philly, L.A. Theres some deals that are ripe for the pickins I'd say.

Hopefully the elusive "take advantage of cap teams" tactic that has been talked about for years can actually come to fruition.

Lots of teams can take salary now though.

Likely all 3 western Canadian teams would like to take advantage. Unlikely anything happens.

Cap floor is $51M, the Flames have $39.1M committed to 14 players (8 F, 5 D, 1 G).

So the Flames need to spend $11.9M on the remaining players.

Yeah, the Flames are not the only team with cap space. Likely as not the teams close to the cap will trade some players for decent picks and prospects rather than accept our spare parts. And we are not in a position to offer anything but spare parts at the moment.
