I can't see Gabby playing til he's 39. That's just crazy talk.

It's likely frontloaded as much as the new CBA allows.

I believe that Gaborik's 7-yr deal is worth around $4.9 M or $5 M a year. I am working to confirm.

Gaborik playing until 39 isn't out of the realm of reality. He's on a team that he doesn't have to carry. I think its possible to see him play it out..

$5 million for him now is OK, hopefully it ends up an anchor a few seasons from now.

The rumoured 3 year deal sounded like a great deal for LA this seems like a long time for a guy that was a great fit for them down the stretch but has a sketchy history.

Lockouts are so the owners can make more money, they have nothing to do with hockey or economics.

Wow, that term. For a guy who has battled injuries through out his career 39 is a lofty goal..
On the flip side, why not ask for 7 years? For a guy who has battled injuries his entire career having that kind of job security is worth taking roughly a million pay cut per year.
You lose out on 3 mill from a short term deal, but gain an extra 20 mill in the long run. No brainer for Gaborik, bit surprised by the Kings though.

Well he can retire later on with no penalty to the Kings.
While they can't front load like they used to, wouldn't be surprised if this contract is also frontloaded
