Leino and Booth on waivers for compliance buyouts
John Vogl @BuffNewsVogl
The Sabres are waiving Ville Leino today for the purpose of executing a compliance buyout.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
VAN puts David Booth on unconditional waivers for purpose of buyout.

Bad player with a terrible contract, but why buy him out? It's not like they're a cap team.

To the shock and surprise of a grand total of absolutely no one.
What a terrible contract that was.

Could see a team like Detroit try to sign him on a cheap deal - he came over to the NHL to Detroit initially and is the kind of reclamation project I could see them taking on.

Back to Finland for him. If there ever was a guy that played his way out of the NHL, he's it. What a dissapointing display of hockey after ridiculous contract he received.

Not too surprising.
The Sabres are going to have to spend some money to hit the cap floor though.

booth played well enough last season where he could be a decent pick up, this time with the right price tag.
I'd be happy to have the flames pick up some reclamations like these on a 1 year deal, with the player realizing they will be given high offensive opportunities + PP time to become a valuable commodity at the deadline and during the offseason (a la raymond).

Normal buyout hit will be on the books for 6 years.
If it was a shorter term likely it wouldn't be a compliance.

So I guess Booth will be trophy hunting for a new contract...

Why? To have them over achieve in contract year and improve our point total allbwhile taking ice time from a guy who could use the experience? Totally disagree on retreads.

Vancouver fans will hate this. Now they won't have Booth as their centerpiece in crappy trade proposals with everyone else.

Don't worry, Booth will never over achieve. The guy is just not that good at hockey anymore. Great speed but not a great skater if that makes sense. Very north south and not much creativity. Might work with the right center (Kesler and him were terrible together) that drives the play and can distribute the puck. 3rd liner at best but his defensive game is not the greatest. Pass big time.

We're going to need to sign guys to make the cap floor so even if you don't want retreads we're going to have to have some.
That being said Booth isn't going to be one of them. He'll land somewhere on a 1Mish ticket I wager but it won't be here.

Booth was sooo bad last season. He'll get a try out with someone for training camp. Can't see anyone signing him to anything more than $1 million.
