Johnny hockey.

I wish the avs would have taken the supposed trade offer of a bunch of our picks for first overall. I'm happy with Monahan though but McKinnon just looks awesome.

I voted for Palat, I watch hockey, your statement is "categorically false".

How is he only 18? If Monahan looks mature for his age, what does that make MacKinnon?

He's got to be the best NHL rookie since Crosby/Ovechkin.

As for the Palat vote, you may watch hockey and just be a liar. Something habernac didn't factor into his equation.

With respect to the Lightning players, this one is a no-brainer.

I picked Palat too, because I thought Tampa had a much weaker offensive team, especially with Stamkos out. This kid stepped up huge. Mackinnon was a beast though.

PS: I watched a lot of Tbay hockey due to Bishop (my vezina pick) being my fantasy goalie stud. Unfortunately, his season ending injury cost me my pool by a few measly points...

Regardless of many other factors, I will almost always go with the 18-19 yr old over the 24 yr old in his 5th pro season. I wish the age cutoff for the Calder was more 20-21 than what it currently is now.

Nate had only 1 more goal and 4 more points than Palat and played in 1 more game than Palat. Palat was +32 to Nate's +20.

If we look at some simple statistics from NHL.com, we see the following table:

During the entirety of the season, MacKinnon played predominantly with Landeskog, Stastny, O'Reilly, and Duchene; all players with a better PPG than MacKinnon. Comparatively, Palat played predominantly with Johnson, St. Louis, Callahan, Filppula, Purcell, and Panik; all players with a lower PPG than him except for St. Louis who was only there for 60 games and Filppula who was pretty darn close to even with Palat.

Call me a liar if you want, but my opinion is that Palat was better and more important to his team and the above statistics supports that.

On your point of MacKinnon being the best rookie since Crosby/Ovechkin, well here is a list of pretty darn good rookies since then who had really good rookie seasons and are comparable or better: Malkin, Stastny, Kopitar, Kane, Backstrom, Toews, Ryan, Skinner, Couture, Landeskog, and RNH.

I got to watch him live twice this season, and I would say he may be the best rookie I've ever seen.

Kid is good.

Really good.

Calder good.

Remember when we heard that Feaster offered our first three draft picks last year for the #1? Knowing what you do now, do you still like or hate the move, and has it changed? At draft time I hated it. I felt three first rounders was way too much to move up five spots. We needed to continue stocking the cupboards in a rebuild. Then, as I watched Monahan, and heard more of Poirier, I liked it even less. Now, after the season is done, Monahan is really something special, but wow is MacKinnon good. I think I go back in time and make the deal (assuming the Avs would say yes - which they did not). I'd miss Monahan, but MacKinnon is on another level.

If we got the 1st overall, there is no guarantee Feaster would have taken MacKinnon.

Feaster was taking a center no matter what. He would have taken MacKinnon first, no doubt about it.

I wish to retract my vote for MacKinnon and instead vote for Johnson. His 0 votes have me convinced he's the winner.

Pro rating stats on any player is a leap of faith. Pro rating production for a rookie on a garbage team is pure madness.
