Arash Madani @ArashMadani
Interviewed Brian Burke tonight. "There have been no discussions between the Toronto Maple #Leafs and the Calgary Flames about Dion Phaneuf"
Arash Madani @ArashMadani
Burke: "It's not tampering to diffuse a rumour. It's tampering to talk about it, but I can tell you there have been no (talks) like that."

Burke does not have a reputation of lying to the media when direct statements like this are made. I take him at his word and thank gawd for this news.

how would it be tampering in either case? Phaneuf has already signed an extension.

One of the questions at the evening STH event last night was Phaneuf returning to Calgary. The crowd groaned pretty loudly which definitely ruffled Burke's feathers. IIRC, Burke said Phaneuf was playing too many "hard/tough" minutes which wore him down over the season which is why his game was in shambles at the end of the year.
Burke then went on to say what a great guy Phaneuf is (something about Phaneuf flying out this week to Toronto for an anti-bullying event with Burke on his own dime), Wayne Primeau was influential in Burke's acquisition of Phaneuf and that a lot of the stuff that came out about Phaneuf after he was traded is typical when a significant player gets traded (distract the fanbase if they think their team "lost" the trade).
Burke is definitely a fan of Phaneuf and said that Nonis could move him, without eating any salary, to any of 15 teams in the league - "He's [Phaneuf] a stud".

He says it sounds like what comes out after a trade we lost, but a lot of what he's saying sounds like the GM who traded for him defending the player who's playing significantly under his contract.
Bluster both ways.

For the Flames and Phaneuf, this would be a disaster.
Dion would bring his solid leadership and set a fine example for our young D.
This would be Treliving swallowing the suicide pill, there is no possible way.

Are you suggesting Burke and Treliving should never be apart? Seems idiotic and a waste of resources to have the two connected at the hip.
