Gold medal at the World Lifesaving Championships in Montpellier, France. It was in the masters division, but total medal count in my age group was 3 golds, 3 silvers, 2 bronze.

Let's hear 'em.
We had our first child, a girl.
We bought our first home, a McMansion in Airdrie.
We also upgraded our vehicle from a couple small cars to a couple small cars and a "luxury" SUV...

I have a long standing health issue that greatly improved this year. Giving me hope that I can soon put that health issue behind me.

New job, significant raise.
New house, a whole one to live in.

Certainly a better entry into 2015 than an entry into 2014 for me.

2014 wasn't the greatest in my life, to be honest, but I do try to find the silver linings more often now.

Bad: Diagnosed with Crohns. Adverse reactions to a couple of drugs. Gained over 30 pounds.
Good: Finally found my miracle drug and it's working great. Now I just need to stop eating so much, and slim down.

Bad: Started smoking after having quit for 17 months.
Good: Much like Edmonton, there is nothing at all good about this.

Bad: Fathers health (stage 4 cancer) deteriorating quickly, especially in the past 6-8 weeks. Other than my wife, and random thoughts to strangers here, I don't talk to anyone about it. I have great friends/family, but just don't like talking about it, and really wish I could. I want to, but just don't.
Good: I've become a lot closer to my dad, and have more frequent, meaningful phone chats with him. I have been able to say everything I feel is needed before he passes, and understand that many people don't get that chance.

Bad: Had to put my 15 year old cat down 3 weeks ago after a sudden illness.
Good: Adopted a cat from the Humane Society 2 weeks prior to his death and she has helped us all cope a lot easier.

Bad: I started a job that brings me up north, and away from my family half the month.
Good: I actually really like the job and love the people/company I work with. They've never treated me like the green noob I am. I also enrolled in an online course through UNB that will significantly boost my earnings potential/opportunites and at the same time became the first person in my family to attend (even though it's online) university. Also, the hugs I get from the kids when I return are the most magical things in the world.

Great: The wife and kids had a relatively healthy and happy year. And that's really the most important thing to me.

A few nagatives. Lots of positives. Onward and upward in 2015

Well, nothing is as impressive and positive as some, but I think my highlight would have been overcoming what was a terrible period of anxiety in my life earlier this year.

May and June were dark months. My anxiety was so bad I couldn't leave my house at all. The thought of getting in my car to drive my kid down the street to school was too much. Couldn't get groceries and spent lost of my summer vacation in my house.

Tonight, I was able to go to a house party for a few hours before the kid finally got too tired and we had to come home and didn't have any serious anxiety issues. Also went out for Christmas and Christmas Eve and a few other events. Still not 100% but it's a huge step forward from where I was.

So I'm hoping that this is behind me now and I can start 2015 in a better place personally and professionally and get things back on track.

For me

Calling the alumni tournament play by play and getting to meet most of the Flames legends as well as some other guys from around the league.

Making it through 65 shows on the podcast.

Completing a major project that I've been working on for two years, now I only have to work about 8 hours a day instead of 14 like I have for good portions of the last three years... fun times indeed.

Writing game previews and recaps for each Flames game and the occasional article for Fireside Chat. It's nice to have time to actually write.

I had a total knee replacement on December 17. It doesn't feel like a highlight yet, but once I'm done the rehab I hope it will eliminate some really bad arthritic pain.

-Got engaged in April.
-saw my first Jets 2.0 game in Winnipeg
-my new dog Jasper has finally calmed down a little as a puppy and become a very good dog and has such a nice personality.
-became more comfortable with the idea of having kids. Crazy scary idea to me still to be responsible for a human but what the hell right?

- left private practice for a sweet quasi-govt job that lets me spend a lot more time with
- my first daughter, currently 7.5 months old, who is going to grow up to love camping in the
