Default iPhone Third Party Music Player Apps

Can anyone recommend a third party music player app for use on my iPhone 5 with my own music * READ - NON-STREAMING *? I've been increasingly frustrated with the sorting issues surrounding the native app (I don't want to listen to an artist's discography in reverse chronological order).

Most information I've found online is outdated by a couple of years or so. Free is preferred but I'd be willing to pay up to $10 for a quality, supported app.

Thanks in advance.

Try Groove. I'd like to help you more but I listen to all my music streaming.

Beat? It's free.

Or maybe Ecoute 2. It's $2.99

I've used both Groove and Track 8.

Groove was a bit clumsy to use, and took awhile to re-sync my music library on my iPhone. Sometimes I would go to look up a track that I had in my head and had to wait a minute or two for the sync to complete. On the other hand, it groups together similar artists into smart playlists. Say that you're in a Classic Rock mood: It would group The Who and Led Zeppelin into a playlist where it would alternate songs.
It also has 3 of a kind, where it's randomized, and plays 3 random songs from a band at a time, before moving onto another band.
The groovy mix's basically go into a random selection from the artist's catalogue.

Track 8 was more of an aesthetic buy/download. I really like the windows 8 look, and that influenced my purchase more than anything. I really enjoyed it, and used it for a long while before moving onto Rdio. The one problem that I found is that the play/pause, and next track buttons wouldn't work at the lock screen, so I would have to unlock my phone to switch tracks.

Overall, I think that Groove would work better for you, as it has a lot of cool features that you'll be happy with.

I thought in the newest version they had a similar matching service to iTunes now?

The uploading has changed recently. It can be done by a simple drag and drop approach and IIRC the song/album are already identified by Google Play it will just match it and not upload yours.

Though I'm not an expert at all for Play Music on iOS. Fiddled with it a bit.. strange it won't play what's on your phone though.

I'll give it a try but I've got a lot of unreleased music in my collection.

Yeah, the uploading is/was a bit of a pain.

Rdio lets you store music locally. You can sync songs/albums/playlists to your smartphone so they still play when you're offline.

This does not help me with my local music library. Rdio is a steaming music service. No thanks.

Just bumping my own thread for anyone who might be interested.

I found an app called "Picky" which uses the native player to play files but acts as its own system that you can determine how the library is sorted. You can sort an artists albums by album title, release date ascending and release date descending.

You can choose to have a dynamically coloured player which basically creates a background for the player based on the album art.

One feature is a dark mode which is nice at night and is generally easier on the eyes.

For $1.99 it is serving me well.

I was just thinking, my Ipod touch does everything better than a regular IPOD, but it's terrible at shuffling music. I have lots of songs played zero times, and lots over 10, I mostly shuffle my 4000 songs so it's anything but random. I'd pay to have this improved

I have a couple iPod classics, and I beg to differ.
